Hey everyone, if you are running a BANKS exhaust system, you might want to check the welds on the muffler. My system has only been on the truck for last than 1 1/2 years. While I was under the truck the other day, I noticed on one of ends where the end-cap is welded to the center section seperated. Called BANKS and they said that they could send out a replacement with a deposit AND the orginal receipt but I am to cover shipping. Then when it gets back to BANKS HQ, their Techs will look at it to see if it's covered under warranty (lifetime). Then they will send/credit your deposit back. What do you think about this customer help?

Would you send out merchandise to a random complaintant without expecting collateral?

I know I wouldn't.

Most auto parts stores have a core charge for big end items, as well as ATS, etc. Would you send out a valuable replacement part without covering your end?

That having been said, same thing happened to my muffler, didn't notice it until I was straight piping it. I get to cover shipping as well, big deal. I'm not replacing since i welded the muffler delete pipe in, I'm getting a refund.

Given that yours looks exactly like mine, all it is is the fact that the individual who welded the muffler didn't get proper weld penetration and/or didn't clean the surface. Note how the weld is wholly intact but seperated from the smaller piece of pipe. probably/possibly either wrong type of welding, poor penetration, or simply not a clean surface therefore contamination and subsequent failure. Magnaflow makes the mufflers, Banks just rebadges for their exhaust system.

Did you clean it up in anyway, or what did you do to it? With our you can still see the soot around the broken weld due to the exhaust leak. You should have the same thing, but with it being clean...

Ya, I cleaned it. It was pretty dirty and really wanted to see what I seeing. Guess I'll just run it for a little and dirty up the leaking areas.

Once you send it in I think that you will definately get your collateral back. Banks hasn't failed me yet with the stuff I have.

Ya I know. I was also thinking of driving down to BANKS since they are about 45 mins away or so. I asked them about going down to their HQ and see informed me that I needed to set something up with Tech support. That might be the way to go and save the shipping cost.

I don't think you'd get any better treatment from MBRP or another brand. Not that you should be happy because the product failed but I don't think anything unreasonable is being asked.

Yeah, go down there and hand them the muffler. I think that'd be the way to go and probably would save you not only shipping costs, but could also keep from having to put a deposit down.

WOW! Other then the welded seam cracking, that system looks new. Mine looks more like 10 years instead of 2.

Will let you know how it goes at BANKS when I get the time to get over there. Should just drive over there with the truck and have them get underneath and take a look.

Mine could just be one of those that the weld didnt hold but PLZ past the word on to anyone you know that has a BANKS exhaust.
