: MPG W/DPF Report
07blkLMM 12-22-2009, 06:27 PM I just got back from a 660 mile round trip drive. I filled up and got immediately on Ga 400 and went to north Alabama by way of I-20. I filled up and wrote down my milage. I went on to my destination and shut down. Today I returned with a couch loaded in the bed plus a passenger, luggage and other things and fueled up outside of Atlanta. Believe it or not, I got 20.5 mpg's both ways and I had a regen on each trip. I drove 65 mph and stopped about 5 times each way for rest area, red lights, etc... and yes, this is hand calulated on a spreadsheet.
So, for those that say you can't get 20 mpg with a dpf, I am proof you can. As time goes on I guess I can live with the dpf if I only lose about 1 mpg on a trip.
Congrats!
I believe it. This summer I had 3 tanks in a row that were 19+ MPG hand calc. Each of the tanks had maybe 40% highway and the rest 2 lane country roads. I believe had it been a full tank on the highway I would've cracked 20.
Tanc Crusher 12-22-2009, 08:41 PM All these trucks just differ. Even if made the same and same setup some get better mileage than others. No idea why this happens but sounds good. 65mph is about the sweet spot.

Pulpit 12-22-2009, 08:47 PM Good deal!
I am just north of you in Cumming.
I agree with Tanc. 65 seems like optimum mpg speed. Just would like for my truck to be a bit louder as it is all stock presently with dpf, etc.

My TA in my avatar is my loud vehicle, I'll just take what the truck gives me.
I have just seen a lot of posts that claims bs on getting 19+ with a dpf, and know with a lower constant speed on the interstate it is possible.
I towed my camper to South Dakota this past summer and mileage was in the 11's with an occasional 10 when going against a head wind in Iowa. However, with a drop in mileage you get all the power you need at anytime
which make for very comfortable tow.
diesail 12-23-2009, 03:52 AM I've gotten 20 as well. It has to be all highway and as much cruise control as possible. So in other words ideal condition. But in stock form there is no doubt 20 is realistic.

I to have seen those numbers on long trips. And that is with watching my speed every inch of the way, however, day to day driving you could almost cut that in half. I don't know about everybody else i am not running 600mile trips on a daily basis. you want to get a real good idea on what these trucks get. What i did was take the total gal's used in the DIC and divide it with the total Milage of the truck, I'm around 16.2 as for as the AVG MPG on DIC i don't even look at it anymore it makes me nauseous.

I gotcha about your Pontiac.
Over the 14,000 or so miles I have on my truck, I average 15-16 butI have seen high teens on the highway. I can see getting what you got on your trip if the speed is constant and you are careful.
It is realistic to assume a 1-3 mpg increase with a dpf and doc delete?

I have done 20 on a tank hand calc several times. At 30K seems to be settling into 19 most long trips of 600 or more miles. Prior to 30K was 18 most long trips. No complaints!
I have hauled furniture or washer and dryers on the tail gate on a short 120 mile trip with the hard tonneau up - still got same great MPG.
;)

You are correct on a day to day basis it goes down a lot. I only go 4 miles each way to work every day and I stop and start about 10 times each way so my mileage is about 11 -12 mpg on a tank. The good news is that it takes 5 weeks to need more fuel. I have been tracking all driving and in 2008 my average was 16 and a little less in 2009 because of about 4000 miles of towing my camper which nets me 11 mpg's.
JOKERGERM 12-24-2009, 12:09 AM well thats good for you,my truck sucks ASS!!
I get 4MPG worse than my LBZ with the same setup
badinblack 12-24-2009, 01:27 AM Pretty good mileage fellas. Makes me want to sell my truck. To get the milage I do compared to you all makes one pretty sick. I wonder how much money I have paid in the last 2 years getting 4-6 MPG less than all of these posts.................
