a friend of the family owns a big repo yard. i'm going to see if she could use me to bring cars in to the auctions.. providing the work and money is there.

i have A LOT of questions when it comes down to this stuff. i have my class a and drive for a living. so the driving experence and license is no big deal.

as far as the truck goes.. it'll eather be a GM or dodge. (sorry guys.. i'm a cummins man threw and threw but also love the d-max)

anyway, i was looking some companies have 4 car haulers with the hydraulic system. hows that all work? is 4 cars too much for a 3500 drw? majority of the haulers i see are 3 car hauler wedge trailers.

i'm assuming a 2wd is better then 4x4 for the weight and what not right?

as far as the trucks go.. eather a lb7 lly lbz or a 5.9 cummins with a 6 speed.

i'm a better off safe then sorry person so it'll be a 3 axle 7k per axle trailer. i personally dont like the idea of running a single tire but.. i guess if all do it is, it is cool. some sites i see electric/hydraulic brakes??

i was also thinking of a 53' drop deck trailer.. to me its a no brainer.. i mean.. just the wind resistance alone.

this most likely wont happen due to my luck but.. i want to get all my info straight.

any info is much appreciated.

You will have to have 4wd, you will get stuck all the time in gravel lots and such without it, the truck wont turn when its loaded and slick to when in slimy lots.

Dual tandem would be ideal, but those seem to be rare. Insurance a must. Your nice truck will depreciate faster then you can pay it off, better find a good deal to start with a make quad payments every month to stay ahead of it. Most guys come out with maxed out credit cards and trucks that they are $20,000 upside down on. It takes a lot of pencil and paper if you know what I mean, driving is the easy part, its the crap that goes with it. DOT will be all over you as well!

i'm starting to think a single axle tractor is worth it.. a lot cheaper in the long run.

The insurance was half of my start up cost. (Already had the truck). And I went small. 2 car wedge behind my 2500HD. You need regular insurance coverage with $1MM liability, another $1MM umbrella liability, and cargo insurance on top of that. You need a DOT registration, an FMCSA authority and UCR registration if you're going to cross state lines. I am under the weight limits for CDL. That would make my life even more interesting. Logistics and paperwork are BIG. Have to sign contracts and provide insurance coverage wilth loss payable clause to any broker you want to haul for.

my family has been in the trucking industry for over 20 years so all that is no big deal. i have my class a. i THINK i might have a hook up with a direct loads from the repo yard to the auctions. in a perfect world she'll give me enough work to suport a 8 car carrier.. blow a few loads out a week (no pun intended). hook up with someone i know well and run frozen.. again.. a perfect world. got the truck all lined up 2000 volvo, mid roof s60 10speed. nice truck.

ive been hauling cars for alittle over a year. started with an 07 3500 dodge 4x4 with 5.9 i put 100k on it then the turbo went out. 800 tow bill and $2k repair bill. bought a second truck 08 3500 dodge 4x4 with 6.7 6 speed auto. the 08 gets worst milage but really seems to handle the load better. gross weight is 26k. now in the process of buy an 8 car enclosed tractor trailer. depending on how far your hauling is to want truck to buy. a tractor trailer will be best for long distance but cant you take it anywhere like a pickup. there are websites out there to get loads pm me if you cant find them. plenty of work out there and you pick where you wanna go and how much you make.
