Yes - It just has to be CJ-4 rated (low ash), which most diesel truck oils are now. Have your bud' read the bottle......

the $50 part is BS. Should cost about the same as ci4 oil.

the new oil cost more to produce hence the increase, but pay attention to the oil if you buy in bulk we buy 55 gal drums for our big trucks and still get the old oil because its cheaper, I think all the oil you buy in the buckets and gallon jugs are all switched over though

I pay the same for CJ-4 as CI-4... i don't think the price should be that much different

I know you have to watch for old stock in stores - some CI-4 still on the shelves that you may or may not want....

I just changed the oil for the first time last week. I think it was 13.99 for a five quart container. There is now way that there would be an increase of 50 bucks over non cj4 oils.
Dealerships are still playin the same game they always have and wonder why they loose business. I went to the dealer to get a spin on filter for the Allison. Very close to 45 bucks. I had to sit down. I said thanks but no thanks. Went to the Allison dealer and got the same filter for less than 10 bucks. Fuel filter are not as bad but still more expensive at the dealer. Don't know about the oil filter I just got that from the auto parts store for about 10 bucks.

Normally I switch vehicles to synthetic oil at the first oil change. I haven’t reached the first oil change in the LMM yet nor have I looked into the oil to use. What is the recommended synthetic oil?

I am sticking with dino and more frequent changes because the emissions equipment tends to get fuel in oil, not good over extended drain intervals. Try the maint and fluids section for tons of oil info.

I prefer Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40.
Don't forget the manual says to change out the Allison spin-on and clean the donut magnet at your first service.
