Are all the reflashed ecm's done by Westers? (Kennedy, Heath and SSdiesel)

If so, they should all perform about the same. The only difference that I can imagine is price. Who has which one? How happy are you with it? What were the changes you noticed (power, towing, egt's, boost, mileage....)? Anybody have their truck on a dyno yet?:boxing:

Now your on the right track! Different vendors ask for some programming differences and from my knowledge i'd say 90% originate from Westers.
Including Heath - Don't bash me TD, Westers supplies to many vendors weather they get it direct or indirect. Pricing is as anything, buy in bulk, get a better deal.

I wonder who diesel ryan's supplier is? He has an 80 hp chip very similar to ss diesel's.

No chip for me, yet. I'm burning enough fuel as is.

SS & JK are Westers, Heath's is not a Wester tune no bashing required, call the man and ask, if you have an inside track that says Westers is tuning Heaths then it is a matter of one or the other not telling it true, I have higher confidence in Bill's statements, and have spent many hours with him over the years to get a gut feel he is on the up & up. I don't know your info source, so I'll have to throw benefit of doubt to Heath. Maybe you should call Bill and get a feel for yourself.

I will say that Heath's tune is a different approach to other tunes out there, towing improvement is the intent of that reflash, as a side you also get some performance gain; others claim to be performance flashes, I don't know never driven them to say one way or other; what is differrent or advantage/disadvantages.

I have a job later this year in Wisconsin maybe and hope to be able to drive & compare a Wester vs Heath on JK's dyno.

One other reflash not mentioned is a Z Industries, it's what I started with in 2001, got it from BD did not like it for the money no bang for buck in the tune. I don't know if BD is carrying Z still, .

I have heaths, whoever does theres, I have no idea. I just know my truck hauls Censored and pulls like a 454.

Mileage seems to have stayed the same. Which is crappy...12.5- 13.5 and I drive like Mrs Daisy.

All in All, I really like my reflash from heath, it made me a new truck. EGT's dropped, and I only notice smoke out the tailpipe when I accelerate from a dead stop, which didnt happen before. I need to check my fuel rate with my scanner.

TD, who does Heath's tune then?

I am willing to send my PCM to someone that is willing to do some real world testing with my Heath tune vs. another. My truck sits a lot, so I could afford to be without it for a week or so. Of course, I have OBD2, so it would need to be a compatible truck.

Some back to back 0-60 runs empty and with a load, maybe 40-70 MPH loaded, and possibly a good hill climb timed with guages monitored could be interesting.

That is pretty surprising. Our trucks are somewhat similar with same year and same gears and mine will get 16-17.

Im not sure what happened. Ever since I did the optic bump is when I lost my fuel economy. I used to get 16-18 easy, I now I gotta work for 14mpg. I need to PM TDG and see if I screwed up something when I was in there.

MY mileage was crappy before and after the reflash....but my truck really runs good.

above # is the number to call and ask yourself, I believe what Heath wrote, maybe in the past they used them, I did not ask about that; my direct question was, Do you use Westers to flash your PCMs, there is a thread suggesting that all current reflashes use the same programmer; Westers.

So it really doesn't matter what Heath may or not have used in the past, I think unless I misread the question, it was asking about current reflashes, so to imply all today are Westers is inaccurate, now if looking for a used one that has once been a Heath tune, benefit of doubt to JKs statement; maybe Westers was involved there (I don't know & don't care), but not on a new flash bought today. One Iv'e had since last year is a 100% Heath and it works is all I can say about it.

BTW CR I'm not flaming you nor am I POed just wanted to set the story straight. 3 offerings I know of today Wester's derivatives, Z-Ind, & Heath. From personal experience Z is a waste of $$$, Heath's works, and I guess from all reports so does the Wester's derivatives.

Advantage 1 over other price/performance???, I don't know side by side test only way to know, if I make it to JK land we will have those numbers, dyno operators here don't run enough Diesels for me to say results are scientific to determine true performance differences/advantage.

Wouldn't it be cool to do a dyno proven comparison between them all? Or, would that be apples to oranges since it appears Heath's is more designed for towing than performance? It is my understanding that most of the others out there are tuned for performance.

I only suggested 90%, there's room for more in that. My info was correct, Heath might be using a different vendor now and i'm not about to start a war over it.

You might have went too far on the bump. That is something that TDG should help with though cause i aint the expert. right now im runnin 265/75's.

I was reading on heaths site today and the ecm for 96 and up has gained another 5 horse, now at 70 horsepower. everytime i get on there it seems it gets higher. and now it doesent say anything in the description about 30 day satisfaction gaurantee.

I'd also like to see what the SS Diesel Chip can do with its claim of 80hp and 160 ft/lbs of torque.

That sounds good. I almost ordered the SS chip yesterday till I saw this thread and am now reconcidering. I Need my truck for towing..not drag racing.( I have a gas motor for that). SS doesn't offer enough info on the website about the chip. I can't even find where they price it seprately.. Looks like you have to purchase the entire performance package. I am now at a toss up between Heath and Kennedy. I did order the SS exhaust though as a start.

Go with the heath. My truck is for pulling and not drag racing either.

I figured out my fuel mileage problem but its too embarrassing to say.

I depend on my truck to make a living so dependability is #1 with me. Do the mods that we talked about in the other thread or check out my signature.

You will be happy with the results.

BTW...as for who does who's flashes....what does it matter as long as you feel you got your money's worth. Heaths did excactly has it said it would therefore I am happy.
