alight, so i head home one day from work and notcie its reading 60mph at a dead stop, when i accelerate it climbs. when i stop, back to 60mph, when im cruising at about 55-60mph, its reading well over 120mph. thinking maybe it just needs to reset i wait till i get home turn it off and let it rest through the nite. haha, nice try. before i even crank the truck up it reads 60mph. same story all the way to work. still reading 60mph at dead stop, and climbing when i accelerate. but when i make it work this morning its acts like it just died. it now reads well over 120mph whether its cranked or not. i know that alot of guys have prblems with their complete cluster going bad and there system being find after replacing the batteries. but i got two red top optimia batteries right now. any ideas guys?

Search words: speedometer stepper

Near the top should be a do-it-yourself article "Speedometer Fix Instructions".

Since you don't have a signature, I'll assume the truck is about a 2003-2005. The problem might appear in other years, too.

In my truck, to reset the speedometer needle back to zero, I have to flick the ignition back and forth between "start" and "run".

However, I don't move the key far enough into the 'start' position to engage the starter. This seems to send a 'reset' signal to the speedometer cluster, telling it to reset. I have to do this several times to get the needle all the way back to zero.

Hard to explain, you just have to try it.

Or, you can just get your cluster rebuilt (do a search on this board - lots has been discussed about it) or get a new one.
