Is it worth getting a throttle body spacer and/or a new mass air flow sensor on my 03 chevy 6.0l? Will it give me much more power? Is there anything else I could do to get more power? Thanks

Tuning will be the biggest benefit. Not a lot but some. Get rid of some of the torque management and it will be more alive. The best improvement on a gasser would be a suercharger or tubocharger.

throttle body spacers are a joke. mass air meter wont give you any more power unless you combine it with a tune. shorty headers are also a joke, no imporvment over factory manifolds.

Nelson Tuning out of Texas has got the LSx (4.8/5.3/6.0/5.7 all Ls1 based)
figured out. A tune is where you should start. It is $500, but you can send it back for a retune anytime you change mods, for Free!

Getting rid of torque managment will take away all the safety bs GM implanted.

I also suggest a free flowing exhaust, and K&N intake.

next thing i would change is the camshaft. There are thousand of different cam profiles out there. An ls6 camshaft and ls6 valvesprings can be had for under $400 new and will show significant gains. A camshaft swap is very easy on LSx based engines, no need to remove heads/lifters.

I've had alot of experience with these engines, and use Hptuners and have tuned quite a few vehicles over the years. If you have any qmore questions, i will be glad to help.

I forgot to say i already have a k&n intake, hypertech programmer and only the cats on my exhaust. I was just wondering if there is anything else i could do. Are the custom tunes that much better than programmers?

No idea on the options you can do with the hypertech but HP Tuners or EFILive is so much more adjustable. Not stuck on certain option limits.

Hypertech doesn't do much for gas engines. A custom tune is better as it removes the torque management. That is the route I will go with my 4.3.

Also, Granatelli/aftermarket maf sensors are jokes as said above. Throttle body spacers are worthless on Vortec engines and only make a whistling noise.

Number one: Throw out the Hyperjunk and get a real custom tune. This will be the best bang for your buck.

Throttle body spacers work the same as just sending your money to me. No gain in performance, but your wallet will be much lighter.

get rid of the cat, the hypernothing, get a better tune that will remove the torque limitations and block those codes that will come if you don't use a tune. throttle spacer wont do much if anything. you could spray some nos to give you a big kick.

I dont know much about these custom tunes could i pick one up half way cheap somewhere? Also will i have more of a chance to have problems with the motor if i get rid of all the torque management?

I've heard a lot of good things about Wait4Me (http://www.wait4meperformance.com/) and Black Bear (http://www.blackbearperformance.com/). They are both only a couple hundred dollars, and you can send them the ECM back as many times as you want for tune modifications. Use the Hypertech to put your factory tune back, and then sell it, and then send the ECM away for a custom tune. Torque management doesn't affect the engine, but the transmission instead. If you completely delete it, it will quickly shorten the life of the transmission - but the guys at Black Bear and Wait4Me have been doing this for a while, and won't send you a tune that kills the transmission.

jesse Bubb is pretty good for Wait4Me one. Had a 2500 Avalanche done by him and really made it feel more responsive. Being a 4L85E on the Avalanche I left 30% torque management enabled and worked real well. I would not fully removed with out other mods.

Remove 100% and don't worry about it

How hard is it to remove the ECM? Has anyone chipped a new 6.0?

I got an 06 1500 hd with the 6.0
I bought a computer from black bear all tuned up. Best money i have spent. The truck is stock too, but i can tell a big difference. Do it, you will be happy.

Don't get rid of the cat. It is alright on diesels and makes them run less egts, but on a gasser it will reduce power as it needs backpressure. A turbo provides the backpressure on a diesel.

I would also like to know how hard it is to remove the ecm? Ya I think I already dont have enough back pressure because I dont have a muffler and when I get on her hard the check engine light comes on. So if i remove 100% of the torque management i could mess up the tranny right?

Brad92

Yes, torque management is so you really can't break your tranny if you drive it like crazy. If you drive careful most of the time, and not floor it all the time, it will be ok with 100% removed. I would talk with a custom gas tuner about how much torque management to remove. You could probably remove 75-80% with no problems whatsoever.
