i was just wondering if any one has ever seen this done to a shortbox crew cab duramax diesel and what would need to be done to do so?

The only thing you would need really should be the axle.
I could be wrong, but my understanding is that the springs perches and shocks and all that are the same. So a new axle should bolt in.
The rear fenders will have to be made, as the fenders are part of the box now.
I will also add I have seen one reg cab short bed dually on here. So you may get lucky.

I might be mistaken as I really don't know a lot about the duallies but isn't the axle the same. It't just wheels and adapters isn't it?

How much is different I'm not sure, but the hubs are different.

i think it would be kick ass. You have the link to the fenders above. Here is a link to spaces http://www.wheeladapter.com/dually_spacers.php

So between the adapters and spaces you will be into it for just over a grand. Plus wheels, might find a deal on ebay for those.
