i've heard some talk of Clipping a turbo.. what is the process for doing this?

Something like 10*'s from the exhaust wheel? I think the important thing would be to keep it balanced.

What do you mean by "Clipping"? What is it supposed to do for you?

Clipping it may reduce the volocity of the exhaust wheel, lowering the chance of overspooling.

QM knew what i was talking about when he said 10*... i wanted to know the procedure though.. from what i've read / heard clipping the exhaust wheel can make a turbo more effecient.. i wanted to know how to do it..

NO, clipping makes it less efficient. It is to prevent over spooling and decreases the amount of force on the exhaust turbine by lessening the surface area that the exhaust pushes on therefore letting more exhaust gases escape without being used to push the exhaust turbine.

my mistake read it somewhere i'll try and find it so i can quote it, not saying its correct..

here is the quote from the site i found the info at: (non TD related)

"At 15psi of intake manifold pressure, however, the exhaust manifold pressure climbs to over 20psi. This is not desirable. What is happening is that the exhaust gases are being held back by the turbine and, once that starts to happen, the turbine is unable to extract any additional power from the exhaust to push the compressor harder. The only way to produce more power in this situation is to allow the exhaust gases to move more freely across the turbine. There are several ways to do this: 1) get a larger turbine housing that permits more exhaust to flow across the turbine, 2) get a smaller turbine wheel that allows more exhaust to pass across it or 3) "clip" the existing turbine wheel to allow more exhaust to pass through it."

Seems like this mod would be like openning the wastegate. Reduces EGBP, but boost follows suit.

I have an exhaust wheel that ate about 5*'s off of it against the housing when the bearing wore out. I've thought about putting it on again.

It is my understanding that Majestic Turbo out of Dallas (Irving actually) does this, and it IS to improve performance somehow. Might do a search on them, seems I read that on a Diesel forum about them and the "clipping" process.
