Well -- I knew it was coming. I suppose I "limped" my tranny. I got a P0700 code -- TCM Malfunction. After a search I see you cannot clear those with a predator.

I was driving in 5th, and then accelled hard, and it down shifted to 4th and wouldn't come out. Then I restarted, and it worked fine. Can I still be fine with the SES light on? Oh boy -- I may have opened up Pandora's Box on this one...

Any advice -- basically what should I do now? Go to dealer etc... I am out of warranty so that's not an issue. I appreciate any help in this matter.

Time to break open the piggy bank for a new tranny :grd:

No point in going to dealer. :Nonono:

Now that you have limped the tranny it will only get easier to do each time from now on. :exactly:

So take it easy for now till you update the tranny ;)

How long can I keep driving on it?

Any tranny suggestions -- I live in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area, and the only person I know of is Gabby's Autowerks (yes werks) in Miami. They do suncoast (not sure about ATS).

Oh boy -- I feel awful right now. Just know I'm out 5 LARGE in the near future (if not more).

You have some glimmer, just don't stomp on it in high gears. ;)

And your not any stupider (is that a word) than the rest of us who have done the same thing. :exactly:

I managed to burn up my tranny in one shot with a hot juice while doing a power brake hole shot. :(

Take a ride up north to Joe at suncoast in the panhandle.

Dosen't have to be 5 large, maybe 3 to 3 1/2

Depends what you replace it with

I'm way to lazy to drive to the panhandle.

So "TECHNICALLY" I can drive it if I'm careful? That would be nice. I was planning on doing it -- just not this soon.

Maybe I can get them to tap into that hidden 6th gear :):):);)

Is that the one you got proof of on your picture site? Nice tracks BTW:cool:

Ya those pictures of the 3 burn outs and maybe 3 more on other days and then one day it just got fried while I was trying to take pictures of a good burn out.

Maybe 8 hole shots altogether and i never limped the tranny.

Well if I'm doing it I'm going all out... So what would you all do? However, still looking to keep it for a while if possible. I don't want to upgrade yet -- if I don't have to.

Those words sound familiar.... Let's put it this way; wifey thinks I am a crazy mofo for upgrading my 'brand new' tranny. She even asked me how many new trucks need upgraded trannies (mind you, coming from a person who knows nothing about trucks/cars:eek: ). It appears as though you'll probably be biting the big one and going all out!!!):h Believe me, it's not that bad....

1) Is it absolutely needed, or can I hold off if I'm easy on her?

2) Can I continue to drive with the SES light on? Can it be cleared by autozone/napa/discount auto etc...?

3) If needed -- what do I need. Torque converters and transmission and all that. I do not completely know everything about it, and again if needed I don't want to get drug through the coals if I go to the dealer (suncoast installer that is).

Purchase the most transmission you can afford.

All the power in the world is no good if it does not go to the ground.

I figured that. Now I guess I have to decide between ATS and Suncoast -- Any help? I know it's like ford -v- chevy, but hey we all chose chevy so one of them is obviously better than the other.

Suncoast, Probably a SC3 or better and convertor.

ATS, Looks like the full meal deal is the best value for the consumer.

As with either, if you get the chance to drive both to compare, you will be better prepared to make the right choice for you.

DTT Stage 1 I would recommend for 475 RWHP with a convertor.
Stage 2 would be recommended if running over that figure; again with a convertor.

I think for most purposes the ATS and the Suncoast are equivalent. They both can hold a lot of power. I personally went with the Suncoast because I'm just a normal city driver who occasionally wants to hit the throttle and maybe drag is once and a while. Plus I don't like purple. I'm extremely happy with my SCIV. I hammer it almost every day and now my biggest problem is 1093's and bursting. Both Transmissions have been used by a lot of people with very few issues with each. Good luck.

Well -- here's my situation.

Daily driver, and would like to hit it hard and drag a little bit. I want to load it up with a lot of power too.

Basically -- I'm looking for power yet reliability as well. Thanks

I appreciate all your input, and will consider all of your opinions. Thanks for the help.

Are you planning on adding anymore power than what you already have in your sig.? What level on the edge were you running when you limped it? Stacked with the Pred?

SethMcKinney
06-09-2005, 01:23 PM
Yes I want to add more power than what I have in the sig.

Things were fine with E/A on 3, and Pred on 2. But just last night I got cocky, and in 5th I went all out -- then SES came on etc...

How do I get the SES off?

3 ignition cycles with no more failures should clear the light. The codes will remain. You need to have a scanner that clears codes to clear the P0700 code and the light should go out unless the problem keeps tripping the code.

Just saw the blue words in your sig -- I must agree ;)

I will try the 3 cycles thing out. Hopefully it will go off in time.

looks like a full blown ats with co pilot or a dtt stage 2 or a suncoast3,4,5 is what you need

Diesel Dragon
06-09-2005, 07:25 PM
You can still drive your truck

The tranny limp's to protect itself from damage BUT before it does limp a little damage IS done.

So like I said it will be easier to limp it next time you turn the power up, and easier still the time after that and so on and so on.

If you take it easy for now you shouldn't have any problem's for daily driving.

Take the 6 hour ride and go see Joe.
Nothing like going to the source to get the job done right.

If your going to go up in power get a Stage 4 with a tripple lock converter

RIght now I'm leaning toward the ATS stage V. I could get the Suncoast stage V, but the ATS comes with the copilot.

There is likely no imediate need for action, just a revison of driving style and/or HP level until you can modify it to hold more power. Stop stacking and just run the Edge and you should be OK for a long time. Then as Juice said, buy as much as you can afford...

SES should cycle out on it's own.

The worst part of a tranny war?
You can buy a new Crated Allison 1000 series and convertor for 3200K or less from an allison dealer.

Yet we are all willing to spend 3-5K on a stocker to make it reach for the brass ring.

Things that make a person go hmmmmmm.

That said, SC, ATS , DTT all look after their clientele above and beyond in most circumstances.

Hey John, Where and when is the Pull Off this year? I feel the need to take a shot at your record!

Before I read the most recent posts I decided to just alter my driving style for a while. In time I will do the ATS V or whatever, but that's next year... Well when I do I now know what to do. By then I am sure they will have out a different type of co-pilot. Thanks again. Yeah -- I also lowered the edge to 2. I'm definitely doing it in '06 (early)...

I've never had a problem with the edge on 4 for 65k. I've limped on 5 going from 4th to 5th or vise versa i think you will have no problem in 4 with just the edge. dave
