I have a 2005 6.6 LLY Diesel 2500HD Auto. Allison 5spd 373 gears Crew Cab SB, looking at different lifts Rancho or Procomp and running a 6" lift double or tripple shocks (Undecided) probably the MX-6 w/ 315's. Also I will be adding a AFE cool air intake, Exhaust and a hypertech to cover some lost MPG. Is all of this going to hurt the trans.? Any Suggestions? Should I go w/ a 4" and 33's? I love the look of the 6" and 315's just woundering about the engine and tranny. Also what would I be looking at for MPG - 14?

Thanks Man!!
Any issues w/ the lift on your tranny? A bunch of people said you can't go over a certain size tire w/ the Allison. Have you had any issues and is the power still there to not even notice the lift and tires. What kind of mileage are you getting?

Hey Bonedesign,
I have a 6" lift with 315's 33" Goodrich mud/terrian tires, and Weld Commando wheels as well as Hypertech. The dealer installed my lift kit and recommended that I don't go any larger on the tires. I haven't any tranny problems. Gas milage for me at times with the wind be hind me I can get 20 mpg. most of the time it's around 16-17 mpg.

I would stay away from Procomp. The best 6" lift out there for ours trucks are CST, Cognito, and RCD in that order. THe Rancho is also a nice 4" kit. I have 5 friends all with the 6" lift and 35's with zero problems. One is even a dumba$$ and is double stacking performace chips and still hasn't hurt the tranny. Any larger than 35's and the Allison starts act up with ABS codes and other problems but it seems to be hit and miss depending on the truck. In my case I just bought a new 2500HD DMax CC SB 4x last week and I am going with the CST 6" lift, 35x12.5 R18 Toyo open country MT, with King 2.5" remote resevoir shocks all the way around on custom shock hoops. Again try and stay away from Procomp they do not stand behind their products and I have heard nothing but horror stories about their lifts breaking. Also I had a set of Procomp Xterrains on my last truck and they were the worst tire I have ever owned. I called Procomp at w/25,000miles on the tires and they told me to pretty much F-off.

As far as power loss, from the research I've done talking to a bunch of guys. I'm going with the Diablo Predator programmer set at 65hp around town and 40hp when towing heavy loads. Leave the stock air box alone and put on a free flowing cat back exhaust....MBRP is the one that everyone is recomending.

I'll know in a week how it all turns out.

Good luck and let me know if you have anymore questions.

Chris

well I guess I'll have to see about the ProComp lift. I have a 6" lift waiting to go on. The truck will ride on 35's as well, and I've never heard anything about the trucks having problems. there are guys running 40"s and up with 12" lifts and not having problems.

I agree with whippledHD. procrap is owned by 4wheelparts and they have been sued and are under investigation by gov. search this site for either. I have a buddy with procrap tires and he hates how fast they are wearing out.

The older ProComp kits did have problems but the new Pro Comp lift kits are good. I have jumped my 02 tahoe with the Pro Comp kit and not had any problems. This is from experience and not seccond hand or what has been read on the internet.

Well at least ProComp doesnt have a bad rap like Fabtech. Now that's a crap lift kit. I'm coming up on 2 yrs with the lift and no problems. Just depends on the store and the employees I guess. Oh well, to each is his own.

Biterman how much does the CST lift increase our front track width?

What's wrong with stacking performance chips.. I don't think that makes one a dumbass..

As long as you know what you're doing. Stacking chips for racing is one thing but stacking them on a lifted truck running 37's, towing a 12,000lb trailer all on a stock tranny ....is just asking for trouble. That's what my buddy is doing......and we all have bet's on how long it's gonna last.:D

On the CST lift, it incresased the track width a little but I went with 16 x 8 inch rims and with 315 75r 16s the tire is almost all under the fender. It sticks out maybe 1/2 inch. I understand that CST is the least stance widening lift. I went with the whole suspension replacemnt though so I don't know what a partial susp. replacement kit like RCD or Fabtech does to the stance.

Actually talked to the local tire/4x4 shop manager this afternoon regarding these 2 lifts. He personally has the RCD on his own truck. When I asked him why he chose RCD over Fabtech, he said "the Fabtech kit increases the front track width by about 2" over stock, while the RCD kit increases it about 1" over stock". Just thought I'd share...

Wider is better! Bigger is better! and Faster is better! Whatever! I've had the Fabtech for over a year now and haven't experienced any problems. The only thing I'm concerned about is the tie rods and OEM Steering stuff, but that's another thread. As for power, yeah I loss power. That's the sacrafice I made for the look I wanted to achieve. Power was easily gained back by adding a power programmer.

I have had Fabtech on mine for two years and had no problems. Rancho and Fabtech are the most popular around here and I have heard of no problems with either type. Pro Comp :bleah: is sold mostly by 4wheelparts and the guy that sold it to me worked there and recommended it over pro comp. Yes it entends the front track by 2"...so I added 2" rear wheel spacers and it now handles better than stock. I did have to put some cut-out bushwhackers on and for this reason I can understand why some would prefer a different style.

CST is not seen often around here. I found a place that sold them but the only truck I saw with one on was a guy from a different 4wd shop that hated it and was gonna change to RCD. :banghead:

Well, even if pro comp is better now than it was, I would stay away from it because of the owner that has screwed some many, many customers. :thumbsdow

i really like the cognito kit, as for power loss, i ran a 14.9 with the hot edge on level 3, not to bad for stock gearing at 36's, heres a pic of mine:

I just don't want to listen to the dealer when I bring it in? Here are some pics. So far so good, extremely satisfied!

Based on what information? Was there a un-biased comparison or survey done by a professional company done somewhere?

And Once again the Rancho and the RCD kits are Identical! (except for the two bars that weld the two sub-frames together on the Rancho)

Lay the two side-by-side and you will see they are exaxtly the same!

Yes I did an exact test on each lift on identical trucks running identical rims and tires with the exact amount of fuel driven by the same driver on the exact same closed course.......and using identical MUFFLER BEARINGS!!!!!!:blahblah:

Of course not knuckle head, my statement like many others on here are my opinions based on my experience having owned all three lift kit brands on my own vehicles. I have also heard that the Rancho and RCD are the same kit, that RCD actually makes the kits for Rancho, but I can tell you this that on identical 1/2 ton trucks, I installed the RCD and my buddy the Rancho with the exact same wheels and tires and my truck set an inch taller than his, even with his torsion bars fully cranked. I did not go into a scientific study of why but regardless there was a difference.

Thanks for your insiteful help into this matter.

Looks nice, I just lifted mine as well using the procomp 6" lift with mx-6 shocks. I can't drive it yet though. How do most of these trucks handle and ride being taller than stock with a lot more meat under them?
