I get about 17 or so in mixed city and Highway, less if I get frisky with the pedel.

Have you replaced the fuel filter?

Things to try.
Put stock air filter back on. The CAI may be cause the system to use more fuel.
Does different levels on the superchip make a difference?
The tires being bigger and probably weight more than stock is more rolling mass to move.
You can different air pressure in the tires but watch for uneven wear on tires because of this.
So was the 03 lifted or other mods? Maybe that combo off the 03 be better.

I get about the same mpg as you. All the mods I have done on my truck have produced no better fuel mileage than when I bout it stock.

i dont have the stock stuff and the o3 only had a aftermarket muffler and programmer had 6 inch lift with 35s had heavier tires

is there any things i can do to it for better fuel milage

the programmer does at different levels i keep it on performance all the time besides towin

I saw an increase in mpg's when I installed my lbz mouthpiece. That combined with the egr blocker and pcv reroute are a great place to start... and oh yeah, lightening up on the right foot helps :)

Coming to the realization that your 03 with 6 in lift and 35 in tires did not come even remotely close to achieving 30 mpg, and likely not even 20 will help your mind also.

Egr block plate will decrease gas milage but possibly increase engine life.. lbz mouth piece increased milage for me.. try a tuner with milage mode like the edge or something it will adj timing and fuel a little to get better milage but their pricy.. 16-18 is the highest milage i have seen or believed people to get around town.. if your not achieving that you may have issues with injectors or fuel system..

I doubt the 03 ever got even 20mpg. Maybe you need to hand calculate as the tuners will mess up the trucks DIC mileage numbers.

Yah i doubt it too.. the DIC isnt very accurate either better off calculating it by hand.

EGR Blocker will increase mileage, it allows the engine to run cleaner and produce more power per given amount of fuel in the lower throttle and cruise regions when it would be active. Granted, the mileage gains may not be on a scale that will register on the DIC but they are still there.

you can see what mods I have in my sig and I am getting about 15ish normal driving, drops to about 11ish when pulling 35 ft 5th wheel, I think that is the first time I have ever heard blocking the EGR will DECREASE mileage, pretty obvious a cleaner motor will get better mileage

christiansenkt
12-17-2009, 08:56 PM
huh ok i believe you i just figured that the motor consuming the recirculated gases wouldnt need as much fuel but i guess im wrong!! i just thought i read that it decreased mpg some where.. Sorry

i had mine blocked when I had my heads redone and honestly didn't see an increase in mine like I was hoping for, but it does make for cleaner motor and oil, some guys claim 1-2 mpg increase, I had high hopes of that but never saw it.

azoilburner
12-17-2009, 09:00 PM
no worries. The only thing the EGR does is make the eco-weenies happy. It is kind of funny if you think about it, all of the environmental stuff they put on our trucks do reduce certain types of emissions, but cause us to consume more fuel in the process. Not to mention that over time your engine becomes much less efficient because of the buildup and wear caused by recirculating exhaust.

azoilburner
12-17-2009, 09:03 PM
Yeah, the mileage increases from the egr blocker will increase with time as your engine expels some of the crap, and if you go in and clean out your intake tract they will be even better. The mileage gains are usually seen over a larger number of miles since the gains are not a huge percentage. I'll take a longer lasting motor if it means Im only getting a fraction of a mileage increase though.

I agree 10000% on cleaner motor, and what you said about the envio-people, I have been a little concerned about getting a ticket if a cop ever saw mine when it was smoking, cause friend let me tell you, I can flat shutdown the interstate when I hammer it.

azoilburner
12-17-2009, 10:37 PM
I hear that! The only drawback ;) to installing the LBZ MP is my truck doesn't smoke as much anymore. Granted it is faster, runs better......... Buut, I just don't stop traffic at intersections like I used to.

when i said that bout my 03 i wasnt lyin i did do the math it came out to that my friend has that truck now and hes gettin 25 to 28 high way plus it aint even my truck anymore why would i be upset bout it if it wasnt true

Someone tell GM about this truck.. I'm sure they'd be interested in an LB7 getting 30mpg with 35's on it. Heck..they'd prolly pay BIG MONEY for the thing. Think of all the money they could make by pulling it apart and figuring out how this particular truck is getting double the fuel mileage it should be.
If they don't believe you, tell 'em you read it on the INTERNET. That outta convince 'em!http://planetsmilies.net/party-smiley-530.gif (http://planetsmilies.net)http://planetsmilies.net/party-smiley-540.gif (http://planetsmilies.net)

i started this askin bout my o5lly why do people have to put down and change the subject to a vehicle that i dont even have

eyeherrdat

I am pretty sure that no one is putting you down, it is just very odd to hear an 03 getting 28-30mpg, but you are the only one that knows for sure, if in fact it was, I would have never given it up and you were very lucky. Dont get upset, we are all on here for the same reason, to see what other people have and are doing. Sorry if I was any part of that.

DIC with a chip is always way off, that might be why your LB7 got that much mpgs.. my lly gets 40 on the highway on the 100hp setting according to the DIC... in reality i'm getting about the same mileage as you are stating that you're lly gets and i only have 33s with no lift :( in my opinion i'd be ecstatic if i was getting your mileage with the set up you have! Nice truck by the way as well. sorry for the none helpful reply.

It was never my intent to infer you were lying. I only was wanting to point out that your "good" mileage expectations were unheard of for these trucks and why there may have been a discrepancy between what you have reported and what others are reporting.

Ok I dont have a chip but I have it tuned with HPT so is this still hold true?

My truck say its getting about 20 MPG and you can see my mods in my sig. But if I was getting 16 MPG with a lift I would be happy.. Thats what my truck was getting when I was stock..

i think it will mess with it still, not 100% sure though... but 20 mpgs is roughly what i get on the highway... so it might be close

I had gotten almost 22 on the hiway with my 03 but it was a 6 speed manual which might have helped and that was hand calculated too I checked it all the time.

I doubt the 03 ever got even 20mpg. Maybe you need to hand calculate as the tuners will mess up the trucks DIC mileage numbers.

MCNut was referring to a specific truck, not 2003 models in general. Did your 03 have a 6" lift and 35"s?

Mp and egr block didn't help my fuel mileage any. These mods are definitely worth doing though. Mp increased performance a lot and reduced engine temps towing.

Not to try and hijack your thread, but I would be happy to get what you are getting; especially with the lift and tires. I get around 11-12 in the city and 15.5-16.5 on the highway. When I hook up to my 28.5 ft bumper pull I might average around 9.5 to 10.5. This is all with a bone stock truck other than the TxCAI.

I am interested in what these sharp guys have to tell you on how to get more mileage.

That's about all I get. My towing is worse but I have a heavy sail to pull. 7.9 mpg. Custom tunes with efi will probably get best results. Open exhaust will benefit you towing a lot. That's my next projects.

I'm with you 2labs and bpe1, I figured it out, highway driving with my snowmobile in the back i got 11.7 MPG. I have gotten better but did not figure it out at those times. Thats driving reasonable. Mines an 04.5 LLY with a 6 inch lift and 35's. I have owned the truck for about 2 months now, first diesel, everyone said how good they were.. I am glad to hear some other ppl are getting as bad as fuel milage as I am tho.
