TDI guy PM me I am looking for a new truck was thinking about an escalade dmaxx wondering on price.
So I'm guessing you would have to take a 2500 burb and work the magic and then put the Escalade body on it?
Wow...
theTDIguy 12-17-2009, 10:23 AM Well it’s a little (well no, A-LOT) more involved then just buying a 2500 frame and slipping it under. The Body mounts on the 2500 frame are in different locations too. It takes a full day to do the work, but since GM builds on a global platform all SUVs have the ability to be 1500 or 2500. Interestingly even the Tahoe body, however I digress as I may be giving away a little too much info on surprise builds planed for next year.
Anyway the point is, yes you can turn a 906 from 2500 to 1500 or vise-versa, you do however need to install all the necessary hardware so it will bolt up just as GM would built it. I have seen others do rebuilds of 2500 salvage title SUV’s at the auction and they just skip the body mounts that don’t line up (when using a 1500 body) and that is just wrong no to mention a liability hazard, our trucks usually receive far more then the normal attention by the public and someone would catch the missing mounts not to mention its just plain shotty workmanship that we have no tolerance for. Yes when wrapped up this will be a OEM 2500 Slade.
Oh did I mention? Yea its a PLATNIUM
jashearer 12-17-2009, 11:04 AM Totally sweet...
Thanks TDI Guy. I love following your builds.
Jay
theTDIguy 12-18-2009, 05:59 AM Well 2500 SUV frame is under the ESV and almost completed, Now I’m learning what reputable rebuilders like Hwood (on this forum) and his old man go through, as I say you can toss anything together your self but to do it RIGHT takes twice as long and cost twice as much. I’ll ware the torque wrench out on this one, many thanks to my buddy Alan @ our local GM dealer for the frame spec sheets, you don’t realize how many bolts are in these frames until you build one. Good God this is a lot of work.
guybb3 12-18-2009, 11:15 AM So if you just wanted to leave it a 1500 but wanted the Duramax, it would be a lot easier, TDI?

theTDIguy 12-18-2009, 03:23 PM in for a Coke,
Ya’ know if you love what you do, you'll do it well. I figure how can this get any better? I get paid to do a hobby, its kinda’ like when we were kids putting together Revel or AMT model cars, trying desperately to do as well as the box photo built by professionals. I always thought how cool it would be to have a job like that! Well I probably don’t make what those guys do but I'm still getting paid to play build-a-truck and I love it!
Hey Guy, Yes and know. In 1500 format if not opting for an SS Max (11.5 rear integration) then well…….. after extensive cross member and engine mount modifications it will fit however you cant beat on it or tune it past tow tune. The 1500 dif is a durable and dependable unit, look on YouTube at turbo Silverado’s and there are people pounding all kinds of power out on them “BUT” not down low at 1500-2000 rpm. Each series has its application however the TowPro LUX is our most intensive build. Actually being stuffed with a LBZ & 6 speed, it’s the only one on the planet. Now that’s really cool too.
theTDIguy 01-09-2010, 02:42 PM Shew!! Well its now a TRUE 2500 Escalade ESV, Looks sick on the 22"s. its been bitter cold and progress is slow, it snowed in some areas around here and in the middle of the afternoon its a whole 34 deg. No work today, I'll get some pics up soon.
Eric
dowork82 01-11-2010, 08:44 PM Man I can't wait to see that thing!!
theTDIguy 01-11-2010, 08:55 PM Just got in, 8:00pm. 16hr day!!!@ 34 deg!! Damnnnn, the ESV front clip is all back together, looks trick on a 2500 frame w/8lug wheels. Will wrap up wiring tomorrow and fire off to move it out, customers waiting so I'll have to shelve it till the weekend. Ended up having to go to MB gunner 8 20's due to offset issues:(, that sucks but the guys at discount tire assure me it will look sweet so oh well.
theTDIguy 01-15-2010, 08:49 PM WooWho! Its weekend time and pics to follow & time to play!!, this ESV is stupid fast!! What a cool truck to drive around. Crap I hate to see it leave, someone is going to get a crazy cool ride!!! I'll show everyone how I did the body tomarrow, its a true 2500 HD Escalade now.
toetrucker 01-15-2010, 09:23 PM What year is the ESV?
theTDIguy 01-17-2010, 02:27 AM 2004 Platinum, riding on a 2006 2500HD LBZ running gear.
theTDIguy 01-20-2010, 04:29 AM this is the 1500 body mount location behind the Rt rear door, you can see the frame is a good 6" inside of the mount location, this is because the 2500 frame is about 12" narrower to improve rigidity. Its simply a flanged nut on the back side, fortunetly as previously stated all the holes are in all the SUV bodies you simply need to prep them. http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg300/thetdiguy/102_2650.jpg
here you can see how I welded an over size washer to the nut giving it 50% more clamping surface then the GM OEM body mount nut
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg300/thetdiguy/102_2659.jpg
This is the mounting location on the 2500 frame before being spayed with undercoating, you will notice we just punch a hole just large enough to fit the flanged nut into the body mount pocket then we then spot weld it into place. In the photo the hole appears to be at the mount location, this is because of the angle of the photo, in actuality its about 3/4" away from the surface of the mount point, you can however see the body to frame mounting bolt protrude through the body nut into the body mount pocket.http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg300/thetdiguy/102_2656.jpg
Once assembled and loaded up with undercoating and paint (for protection from the elements) wa-la a 2500 Escalade body. Yes its just that easy.
theTDIguy 01-23-2010, 04:53 PM And here we go.
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg300/thetdiguy/102_2675.jpg
juniorcruzer 01-23-2010, 05:43 PM That is just awesome looking. I think you and I need to talk. I am in the need for a big person heavy hauler.
Jon
dowork82 01-23-2010, 10:23 PM That is sweet! Got any pics of it blowing smoke? ha
theTDIguy 01-23-2010, 10:44 PM No this is a nonsmoker as the clientele that can afford this kind of truck probably want it smoke free but when eBay is done we shall see.
here is the video
http://www.youtube.com/user/DuraBurbinc#p/a/u/1/cAbgf76zUHs
dowork82 01-24-2010, 03:43 PM Is that one a towpro? Looks like it sits rather low.
dowork82 01-24-2010, 03:43 PM wait, nvm just saw it in the video.
Would you be able to put an LBZ in the 07.5+ 'Calades?
promax 01-24-2010, 05:32 PM I saw an article about duramax suburban conversions and they were using the front half of the truck frame and the rear half of the suburban frame. They also had to do a 2 inch body lift to clear the Allison.
Cloughm 01-24-2010, 09:03 PM Now that thing with Twin turbos would be the Cats MEOW
theTDIguy 01-24-2010, 10:37 PM TWINS..........
Yea I like twins Hmmmmmmm
Hey wait a minute we are talking turbos right? :D
Guys if this dosen't do it for you, ya may want to look into Cialis
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg300/thetdiguy/102_2729.jpg
The frame under this ESV is from a 2006 2500 YukonXL 4X4, ironic the drive train is from an 06 also, wasn't planed just worked out that way.
Yes it is a TRUE TowPro but I went with 3" drop shackles and lowering keys to drop it back down to its factory ride hight. It drives like a dream too, very soft real comfortable, the air conditioned seats are cool (no pun intended) but it is kind of weird. My wife likes the heated & cooled cup holders those suckers really work great! You know I wonder if you set one to cool and the other to heat will they sweet in the middle?? Hmmmm
Well it was fun while it lasted but its off to eBay now

More pics there for everyone.
theTDIguy 01-25-2010, 11:06 AM DoWork82,
Yes we can do the 07 GMT900 Escalades too, we will be showing one of those builds in March when we do the 2010 Duramax Suburban as built by GM back in 07.
theTDIguy 01-30-2010, 09:22 AM Hey guys here are some more pics, driving around town in this sled has a great "feel good" quality about it and it absolutely hauls a$$. A guy in a Mercedes SUV asked me "where the hell did you get that I gotta have one too?!" I answered, " I bought it from DuraBurb!" Well honestly I couldn't afford the insurance on it let alone the cost of the truck:( but HEY I'm drivin' one (until eBay is over) and he aint so HA!!!

golddigger 01-31-2010, 12:57 PM DAMN that is sweet!
ZMANM3 01-31-2010, 09:48 PM That is an awesome conversion. Very informative about the body mounts. So if someone wanted to pay you to say swap a 2002 avalanche body onto a 2002 2500 frame what would it cost about?
znowman_9 02-09-2010, 03:21 AM tdi guy
have you figured out a way to put Dmaxs in 07-10 Suburbans yet
i wanna build an excursion killer! your slade and 04 burbs are sick!
thx
ZuesSuz 02-09-2010, 04:30 PM TDI - What a MasterPiece!:cool2: You have my vote for CEO of GM Duramax Diesel & SUV division! Now only if you could convince them to come out with the 4.5 Dmax for my honey?:D Great job, and that you have continued success with these beautiful machines you are creating! :thumb:
Brad92 02-09-2010, 08:44 PM Very Awesome! Love your threads...
theTDIguy 02-11-2010, 10:34 PM Thanks for the props guys, it nice to share with those who understand the value of what we do here behind the scene.
Hey ZMAN, the Avy is already available in a 2500, seems self defeating. The cost of the frame switch would out weigh the swap to a true 2500. Since the Denali & Escalade are not offered in the ¾ ton series it makes these builds just that much cooler.
Yes ZNOWMAN we build on the GMT900 platform and will have a 2010 reproduction of the GM 4.5 SUV (but with a 6.6LMM) in March. I’ll post some “goodie” info on our forum for that truck too.
No 4.5 crap here at our shop. I just see that mill as ending up like Internationals 6.0L in the Fords. If we run our 6.6 motors on the raged edge @ 1000 FT LBS and it breaks….. well o.k. BUT If I buy it from the dealer NEW running on the raged edge and it brakes?? What a piece of Bovine fesses this 4.5 thing is!! Personally I’m glad they killed it. I would like to see them do a 6.6 in the SUV’s though.
ZMANM3 02-11-2010, 10:47 PM Thanks, a lot of it is I just really like my Avalanche I have now.

that awesome man. i would love to build a Gmt900 burb lmm. hopefully you could post a video of a Gmt900 burb lmm creation on youtube!:coolnana: . would be sweet if you had a website too. your work looks flawless and awesome. thx
b_buechter 03-02-2010, 02:34 PM what do you do with the leftover parts such as the good looking 06 silverado you dismantled
theTDIguy 03-03-2010, 07:01 AM Sure Znow, I'll post it as soon as I finish up this 04 Tahoe and 03 Burb in here now.
Hey b, that one we rebuilt as an 8.1 gas truck and used it for the shop. I sold it on ebay for a song to a nice couple for pulling a horse trailer. We didn’t need it and they did so it all worked out nice. I’m a believer in what comes around go’s around, you cut people breaks, breaks will come your way too.
Usually the trucks we buy are unrebuildable, pretty wadded up (to quote Hwood) and even then they do crazy money. Then my son (13) parts them out on eBay. Gives him a job since everyone out here has acreage and lawn mowing isn’t his thing anyway, he likes the trucks too.
