Would it be ok to use a oil filter from a 6.2 diesel on a duramax ? it looks exactly the same and fits perfect.

NO. Gm has a bullitin about this. There is something different that they say not to use the 1218 filter.

My 6.2 filter will not even fit my Dmax. If you pick up both filters, you will notice that the Dmax filter is much heaver then the 6.2's. There IS a diference.

If you use that filter you'll most likely blow it apart.

You can go the other way around just fine, but the 6.5 has the bypass valve in the block where the Dmax relies on the bypass in the filter as I understand.

That is correct. The PF2232 besides having an internal by-pass also filters to a smaller micron rating also.
