I have been awaiting the completion of my 5500 with utility bed. Looking at your's makes me excitied to get mine in another weak. How does yours proform regarding of the line? I have asked many times on this forum but most members don't seem to have any clues, Most are daydreaming about their pick-up trucks. Any how what line of work are you in. Also is you bed a 40" high model and what length? Let Me Know, Kingsmt.

I really am happy with it. I pulled a D6 dozer the other day and i was pleased. i do wish i could find some aftermarket front shocks because it rides like a pig.

I had to replace it a old lady ran a red light and t boned it. She flatened the gastank and pushed the frame over 8 inches.
Funny thing the new house Adrina moved to and remodeled last year is up for sale. They are building a new house in Raritain Twp now.

So it was a D4 to and from the rental place...only about 40 miles ..But i had 3 guys and 5 tons of stone in it. D6 was a little strech but it sounded good.:Nonono:

Roidman, how do you like the Boss Plow? Do you have the 10' V or straight? How much plowing do you do?

My truck is set up for plowing spreading in the Winter and as wildland fire truck in the summer. I have the V and already had the plow wings replaced under warranty as I started to rip them from the tower. I also tweaked my a frame abot 1/2". I plow about 10 acres of lots and 10 miles of road with it here in rockies at 10,000 feet (200-300 inches of snow a year)

I have lots of pics...http://chtucker.home.bresnan.net/newtruck1.jpghttp://chtucker.home.bresnan.net/lunch2.jpg

I rember you from last year. Its got a 10 ' straight plow central hydraulics and a big monro tail gate spreader.. It plows like a dream a little scary at first those f%$#ing mirrors! I have come so close to ripping them off.Turming radius is amazing i just do big commercial lots . I get a kick out of the looks i get from the guys in there 1/2 plow trucks..

chtucker

Mirrors "only" cost $400...-:temployee ripped the passenger side off first time out.

roidman81
06-08-2005, 11:28 PM
You mean the blades or pro wings? how did you bend your frame ?

chtucker
06-08-2005, 11:33 PM
The wings themselves. I don't know when or how I bent the a frame, but I run a 4 yard stainless spreader so I plow at around 20,000lbs GVW if not a bit more

roidman81
06-08-2005, 11:36 PM
If you dont have a need for the V blade get the straight sounds like your plow cant take your weight?!

chtucker
06-08-2005, 11:49 PM
I am going to keep the V till it falls off. It is nice for the roads I plow. I am going to step up to a Viking 11-12' straight blade with a wing after wildfire season hopefully..

How does yours proform regarding of the line?

Stock, off the line - Mine was a slow beast. It really hesitates when you try to get on it. I put a PPE (pacific) programmer on it and run it only at level 1. Much better. It performs much better. Plus, the speed limiter is removed.:ro)

Getting back on topic... NICE TRUCK, If I trusted myself or my employee I would have a service bed... To much risk plowing. Wish we could find a mobile EVT that was reliable here in Colorado. I have to climb in to work on the the rear most valves on our Sutphen cause the current one is to big to fit in there...

Sounded good but prolly not very logical. D4 is still a good load for that truck though.....:DCome on Roidman a D4C weighs 16,000 plus the stone and three guys. D4c is Caterpillars smallest of the 4 series and the Kodiak is still a very lame excuss! Come on have you been nipping shine and was maybe pulling a little Cat skid loader. I have several (6) 4 series and they are not light weights. They suck to run have to hold shift lever for the hydo-static to keep them propeled.? Plus 5 ton of stone, Has to be all down hill with the bull****!!!!!!! Must be touching your self to much!!!

roidman81
06-09-2005, 08:05 PM
Look Fusco rental world says the machine a wide track D4 only requires the 14k trailer which they supply the stone was 5 yards thats 4 backhoe buckets abot 4-5 ton ? the truck says 26k i put about 33k gross or so many people pull that on this site. As i said the temp guage went up and it was only about 40 miles on Rt287. Next week we have to move the backhoe up to sparta and that weighs MORE than the dozer it takes a 9 ton trailer.

hi ya'll....just signed on...and just ordered an 05 4x4 4500 with a two ft backpack, 11 pto dump and 15k front winch....the 4500 and 5500 are the same trucks...different badging and marketing niches....thats it...only gmac offers low low financing for the 4500....

I haul a 14k trackhoe, 5k trailer and occasional 2-5 tons of materials....all day long..... in a present 03 4500 with dura/allison....this has been the best small med duty truck owned in the last 20 years of this type of bus...getm' while their hot....gm is starting to blow them out...

ps just lowered my price by $2500.....looking forward to the tech info on line thanks in advance....

Keep telling yourself that the 5500 and the 4500 are the same truck. Higher GVW??? by 2,000lbs on the 4x4 at least...

I can get a a 4500 or 5500 from a medium duty dealer, but I can not get a 5500 from a light duty dealer.

The spring packs are different on the 5500 for sure.... If you are at the least bit concerned about being under GVW, and you should probably be if you are using the truck commercially, you would step up to a 5500.

Your 4500 is going to tare at 12,000lbs if not more, that only leaves 5500lbs for payload (minus tools and such in the backpack)

With good credit I got 4.9% financing for 48 months on my 5500.

06-10-2005, 10:41 AM
I didn't have to tell myself that....the gm techs did...in the 4x4 rendition the only thing diff is the badging and marketing...the 4500 gvw is 17500 the 5500 4x4 is 19500. moving to a 4x2 version will yield diff results...

compare the suspension, engine and tranny choices....ratios, etc.....again same truck....ask around you'll see....

I did, and went with a 5500. I am not a weight freak, but don't get caught over GVW by the state patrol is all I can say. 2000lbs in GVW rating is alot. I paid less for the 5500 from a commercial dealer than I was ever quoted on a 4500.

Sign the contract take your new 5500 and pull somthing with it.. you will see. Hey Roidman, I ordered My 5500 back on Feb 3, 05 and did receive it on 5-18-05. I have it at the upfitters and they are finishing the utility bed for it right now, should have it Tues or Weds. After I went to the dealers and wrote him a check for it I personally drove the truck to the body builders shop and I thought the truck runs like a sick horse. I move my heavy equipment with a Pete which has a 525 Cat and 70 ton detachable and for us to tow a dozer with a little 5500 we would most likely go to jail ,the Cat book states that my D4c which is the smallest of 4 series is 16,000 with a 121" straight blade with 6 way. I understand what the rental house told you becase I have a little John Deere 450 H with LGP and it weighs 13,800 but I know for a fact the Cats are heavier. Stone weighs 1.42 tons per yard so due the math. I think stopping it is another issue! If you tried that on the hill's of Western Pa. you would find out what I mean. I just don't beleive in taking risk's pulling things and hurting or kill somebody and that the problem with most people they take chances. Life is not a game of chance! Hope you may consider that as my way of thinking. Good luck in all of your ventures.

Costed me 234 buck to get my truck back they said that gmc would not pay the bill becouse they could not find any thing wrong with it. Well come monday I will be calling the Medium Duty Truck Customer Assistance line.

I got mine at coloial and the only time I had to wait it when the injectors went bad i kept taking the truck and they had to tow it in 4 times. I kept taking the truck. when the injectors where on order it was during the Christmas and New years and Gm was shut dow for the hollidays. But most time I go in there and tell them it broken and the fix it on spot. I also have been buying my trucks there last 25 years too.
