Hey ya'll,
I took Marks (original screen name user) 2004.5 LLY into the shop yesterday for him. We had a list of things needing checked out. One of them was the Oil Pressure. Seems to run low sometimes.
Well the dealer called me today and said maybe we need a re-flash. Well we already re-flashed it a couple of months ago. The dealer said maybe they should do it again... Will this hurt anything??? Has anyone else done in twice within a few months??
Thanks for your responses, couldn't find anything about reflashing again in the search.

The simple answer is the reflash reprograms the ECM in the truck with updates, adjustments, etc., basically telling its components how to operate. The ECM controls virtually everything on these vehicles. IMHO it shouldn't hurt anything, more likely it might help if they have updated their Tech II recently.
Some people are scared of the reflashes. :o: Ironically the ECM in all our trucks are flashed (programs loaded) before the truck can come to life. Reflashing the ECM is essentially the same process just with different or newer instructions.
I lean towards having the latest technology/programs in my computers. My truck was reflashed back in December with very favorable results. Others will disagree. Oh well! ;) JJ's .02 cents worth. JJ :)

I don't think the dealer means reflash it with the exact same code.. that defeats the purpose. He probably means there is an updated reflash that fixes your problem or they will tweak your current program and reflash it.
I am with JJ..I prefer to have the latest updates on my ECM.

People are afraid of new re-flashes because of what Ford did to its 6.0 PowerStroke owners.(Some did has a rolling idle when cold-up and down 200 RPM's)But they re-flashed almost all earley 04 trucks for no reason (In for oil change) and turned off the Pilot injection in turn making the motors loud as hell or louder then an older 7.3..They got poor fuel milage and shifted bad too.AS long as GM doesn't do that to your DuraMax you'll be OK,Ford lost Alot of truck buyers because of that re-flashing.

Hey BMorrison, do you think Ford did that to stop the 6.0's from slinging rods? Last figure I saw was somewhere around 700-800 buybacks on the 6.0's. Not knocking Ford's. With all the power/torque these engines are cranking out all of them are likely to have issues. JJ :)

I just had my D/Max reflashed monday. 05 built in Nov, purchased it in March.
The truck had a bad surging problem at 1000-1200RPM, like when you are driving in a parking lot at that RPM range.
Picked up the truck monday night, all I can say is "WHAT A DIFFERECE" the truck drives smoother now, shifts a little better it took the rough edge off of the diesel.
I would recommend it. Just my .02 worth.

When I was at the dealer a few weeks back, they said GM had told them to hold back on any reflashes for now:mad:
I would sure like to see if they can tweak my fuel mileage a bit:D
