Thought some might be intereseted, I was @ the dealer about an hour ago to have an oil leak checked, While I was there was talking to tech & he showed me a Dmax that had the heads off with MELTED PISTONS ! He said that the customer had edge & Banks stacked. GM is refusing to cover due to thermocouple in the manifold still. It is obvious that it was "chipped". GM was talking about going halfs on the bill as a goodwill gesture until the customer mentioned attorney, then they said forget it.Looded like a bunch of little dents in the pistons. trashed the turbo also.

Can't stack Banks and Edge to my knowledge. A pyro is not suficient evidence to deny waranty. It's just a proof you care about your truck.

Seems to me if the tech said that Edge and Banks were stacked that there indeed might be sufficient evidence...unless he pulled that out of thin air.
Sounds like another customer with the entitlement attitude, which in the end costs us all.
They can deny it all right and THEN it goes to court costing us all more money. I would resent that if it's true he chipped it and it's proven that was the cause of the damage. Then they ought to throw the book at the owner for fraud and perjury if he's caught doing so.

Anyone that runs a big program or a stack has tossed the factory warrenty out the window and should know it. They can and will deny it as the over temp cannot be caused by a stock engine unless they find a bad injector. In which case the melted pistion would only be in the cylinder where the injector went bad. Now it could be argued they are all bad but having them tested would settle the argument. Needless to say I think thhe customer would loose unless the injectors were showen to be bad.

Where in MI?
Which dealer?
I have a few spare parts around to put that back togather, but like mentioned above, you pay, you play

But can they be stacked? Just the Banks or just the Edge does not qualify for a big program however, they do have the ability to produce 1700-1800 deg under certain circumstances. I was reffering to that sentence "GM is refusing to cover due to thermocouple in the manifold still" Somebody somewhere must have only a pyro and nothing else and shouldn't be denied waranty based on that?

Just one piston gone?
If so, maybe the genious tech should pull the pan and make sure the piston oilers are still in place? no cooling oil on pistons will cause short life

Dents on the top of the pistons does not mean they are melted. It is usually a sigh of foreign particles in there. I have destroyed a few bike and snowmobile pistons in my day. A photo would be nice. Later! Frank

been out of town for a few days & could not respond. Would prefer to not name dealer until the matter is sorted out. They treat me very well & have helped me out alot over the years. All I can say is what I saw and the dealer told me, since I am not directly involved would not want to get too into detail anyway, just thought it was very intresting, could the torbo self destructing cause the dents in pistons ? It was sereral pistons, I don`t remember exactly how many

If the turbo came apart this would be why the pistons could have dents.
