Edge says for towing to use Level 2 and not above... Level 1 is for mileage. All of that is in the edge manual L1 is 40hp, L2 is 65hp

Either way, the Edge looks like one heck of a package for a "tow" setup. Now that I'm pulling nearly all the time this summer, I can understand why some of the pullers don't like the Predator as well. While I still think it's a great bang for the buck, an inexperienced user could cook a turbo pretty easily with the Predator in the Rockies.

Oh well, I guess that means I have to be the captain of my ship.

I have noticed that the Predator runs hotter EGT's than the Edge does when comparing them both set to kill.

I recently applied a Juice and Edge to my 05 4X4 and after close scrutiny I discovered level 2 is for towing "light loads only"......I figured this out the hard way. Level 1 is more than sufficient for towing the heavier loads. Hope this helps.

I read that also in the manual. Last trip I ran mine on level 2 weighing out at 16,900lbs with everything on my sig plus we were loaded, on the way out town, full tank with me and the girlfriend in the truck. Although I have an LB7 what would be the general consensus here? Should I actually be in level one? My boat weighs 4000lbs
Thomas, What was the lesson you learned the hard way?

Do any of you guys have any updates? I'm looking to tow about 14,000# and I'm looking at either a Predator or Edge with Attitude.

From what I've read Predator can have higher EGT's (not sure if that's the case with the newer Predator?)

The Edge with Attitude can cause Tranny issues which put the tranny in limp-mode??? Not sure if I've got this correct but, whatever it is I don't want to be left on the side of the road waitiing for 30 minutes or more while the unit resets.

the only time i have limped my tranny was going from running in mode one all the time and then put it in 5 and romped on it.

and how do you know you are stressing the motor and or the tranny. i pull my enclosed trailer approx. 10000lbs loaded and in modes 1,2,3. doesnt seem to make too much diff in egt's or show any slip in tranny or engine temp change. 2004.5 lly edge *** 1.2, cold air intake, 4" turbo back magnaflow

ditch witch:

What kind of difference did you notice in engine noise when you put the exhaust on?

Thanks

I usually pull 10,000lbs at level 2. Can't complain about mileage, driveability and performance.

Whats considered to be a light load? I tow a boat and trailor combo that probably weighs 7500lbs. or less. And a landscaping trailor that probably weighs around 3500lbs.

duneme- the only engine dif. is that is really whistles now that i put my 4" down pipe on. as far as sound level not much louder than stock unless you are on it. then it barks. has a nice tone to it. not thumpy sounding like others. helps turbo spool quite a bit down low

How did you find this out and what was the "hard way". I tow a 15000lb trailer and also do any of you use the "Tow" mode on the truck along with your Edge?

Towing anything under 6k you should can use level 2. From 6k to 14k use level 1. Anything over that go back to 0. You guys are going to find out the hard way that the stock tc is the weak point in the Allison. This is why there are so many threads on tranny and tc mods and why everyone is saving their money to get a Suncoast or ATS. Towing over 6k on level 2 is slipping the tc clutches and they WILL give up the ghost.

The hard way was probably a little bit of extra tranny slip on level 2. With what you are towing on a stock ally I wouldn't go higher than level 1. You'll also have to watch out for EGT's. Tow/Haul all the way in my book. I use T/H in my daily unloaded driving. It will help with delaying the shifts a bit so you won't lug the engine and it will help keep the trans cooler since you won't be slipping the TC clutch as much generating heat.

tbyrne, where did you get that hood on your GMC and do they make one for the Chevy?

Slippage can be monitored via the attitude. In Tow Haul, there shoudn't be any slippage any way. It is recommended by edge that level 2 should only be used up to 6000lbs. Anything over step down to level 1.
I bought my Edge before I got a chance to tow stock. Mainly for the guages, but also for the extra power. But I have read that the Duramax actually tows better stock, I haven't had a chance to confirm this. Anyone have any experiences??
