Hey i am curious if any of you know where i can get some info on putting a 3208 cat motor in a pickup with an Allison automatic transmission. And don't tell me that motor is junk... if it it only lasts 500,000 miles in a semi truck i know it would go twice as far in a pickup truck.

3208 is likely close to 2000 lbs.

We had a coal truck that had 300,000 miles on it when we sold it still running like a champ, and keep in mind a load of coal is 21-22 tons.

Im just speaking of my experience with what Ive been around. Cat will rob you on parts.

older cats are great motors as soon as they went to the new twin turbo emissions setup they are total garbage. i got a "baby" C12 435hp with about 750,000 or so miles on it and she runs great.

The mine equipment they build leaves alot to be desired.

I have a Cat skid loader and it is a good machine. In my experience the 3116 & 3208 were good motors, but the power to weight ratio is poor.

M&W gear co. made kits for twin turbos, the marine kit was better than CAT's single(90* riser elbows were thin and would leak, intercooler floated inside turbo intake piping and in heavy seas bounced around and came apart) lot of mechanics don't like any bent diesel engines, they want them 6-in-a row. if you can get it for good price and do it. i have seen CAT 333 or 343 shoehorned in F350 back in early 80's, wasn't fast but got around.

know its not what you want to hear but yea they are junk we had two in a strait truck non turbo version is a pig they smoke horribly when cold due to piston design and timing other cats are great as long as there pre emmisions weve got 4 3406 mechanicals and a few pre emissions c 15s all great I will say parts are expensive and when you get new/reman parts from cat dont count on them being good Ive gotten alot of bad parts off their shelf bad liner packs a bad reman head you name it.
