Greetings Folks,

I have a 2009 3500 Dually with around 10K miles on it. I have noticed the volt meter showing quite a low voltage after a cold startup. I took the truck to the dealer and the story seems to be this is a normal condition. I was given a copy of the Service Bulletin B151703. This states the intake air heater can draw up to 130 amps at 100% duty cycle for up to 10 minutes and the glow plugs can draw up to 110 amps for up to 3 minutes.

The truck is easy to start, but it won't show a positive charge (14V on the gage) for sometimes more than a minute.

Anyone Else experiencing this?

New style 2007 & up, have a different charging system. The volt meter fluctuate alot more than older models. We had alot of service customers ask about that.

Yeah its normal, same thing here. I am in the middle of putting an oil pan heater on as well as a waterproof battery tender to help with those -10 starts. I put a Marinco plug receptacle in the bumper then wired a three way plug under the hood.

Normal...my cummins does the same thing...the newer the turck in terms of emmisions, the more they have to maintain the intake air temp to help control emissions at start up/cold engine and also provide ease of startability for todays consumer.
