Okay, here's the deal. I need better mileage and performance in town and highway. I do some hauling-a two horse trailer, but not too often. I love my 04' Duramax but anticipated better mileage both highway and city. I've got almost 11k miles and have considered adding a chip/controller of some type. The chick at the Chevy dealership suggested a hypertech and a nicktane package and I had looked at the Edge Juice/Attitude until I saw the installation. :help2: She seemed to imply there would be no warranty issues if the 'unit' was out of sight or off the vehicle, if when I brought it in for repairs. I guess I am looking for best performance, ease of installation (since I am a fairly mechanically inclined female and have no guys in my life that are what I'd consider more mechanical than myself), any suggestions on what to purchase? The budget is not as great an issue as the extra mileage and performance. :help: I have been reading past posts and specs on the different products but I am almost completely confused at this point. Any suggestions guys & gals?
Thanks, Hinhanska:confuzeld

I would suggent hyperteh. I run it and love it. I had the edge systm on it for a couple months and had too many problems with it. Hypertech is a fail safe, plug in and tune and drive away. Takes 5 minutes and you'll see 1-2 mpg increase on level 3. Hypertech is probably your bestt bang for the buck costing beween 330 and 380. You will have noticably a more powerful truck. You wont be dissapointed.

Mileage gains are subject to how you drive the truck. Once you have the extra power from an adder it's hard not to drive it with a little heavier of a foot. If you can keep the foot out of it you may see mileage gains with a power adder. The predator is a nice unit as well as the Edge. I'm only going to talk about these two since that's what I'm familiar with. I like the edge for the protection features i.e. defueling on EGT's, on tranny slip and the tuning on the fly. I like the predator for the diagnostic tools. Both have good tunes I prefer the Edge tunes personally. It's all a matter of personal tase though. I've heard good things about the Edge EZ also. If you are going to run a stock tranny I suggest keeping the HP additions under 90hp. Good luck.

i have the juice and the predator, the plus' for the edge are built in gauges, adjustable on the fly and cool factor, mileage the same or worse than stock with a conservative right foot.

predator is cleaner power, no relearning of the trans when its warming up (a big deal for me) and a solid 2 mpg better even with a slightly heavier than conservative right foot on 85hp (i got 18.5 on stock tires and winter fuel and 18 with h2's and summer fuel)

I have the Hypertech and love it. No tranny mods or anything. Plug it in and go all in under 10 minutes.

Welcome to the Smoking Section... :D

You have two basic kinds of tuners that increase HP:

Harness boxes (Edge, VA, etc) which some can snap in in minutes others require mounting an EGT gauge which should take about 1-2 hrs.

Programmers (Hypertech, PPE, Predator, etc) which take about 5-10 minutes to upload new info through your data port under the steering wheel.

For someone who just wants more grunt without worry, I'd suggest the Edge EZ. You will not be disappointed. It's the fastest install, and simple to remove. You can change power levels while driving.

Mileage? That's a toughy. Run a slightly taller tire (265 or 285) to drop hwy RPM's and keep the pressure up to 60-80 PSI. Avoid going over 2000 rpm.

I'd suggest you sit down and do some reading. Every tuner out there is owned by one or a few members and each is discussed here with good and bad results outlined. its going to come down to your preference and what you are ultimatly looking to acheive.

I would suggest a predator tuner in my experience. However, Mcrat suggested the edge ez....I have no experience with this box but if anybody knows lly performance its Mcrat. I would go with his suggestion.

Adding some dyno plots of most tof the afformentioned items to my site. Listed under Gallery/Superflow etc...

Just getting around to checking the dyno plots. What I see and like is the RPM where both Edge products peak torque: 1900rpm. Low end grunt is where it's at, then the HP can take over to keep it rolling. Hmmm... no test on the Predator?

Thanks.

It looks like the Hpyertech on level one is worse than stock. I'm not expert chart reader but thats what it looks like to me.
