This is going in a jeep with a 4.3 and 700r4 but i figure this is the place to ask. I think i'm going to run a diesel torque converter because of the super slow stall speed. What i'm unsure of is are diesel torque converters 3 bolt or 6 bolt? Also what is the stall speed is the stock converter?

Some one who knows better can correct me but I think they all have the same stall Gas/Diesel. The 700r4 is 3 bolt.

They are available in both 3 bolt and 6 bolt, with the 6 bolt being more desireable in a diesel. The stall speed for a diesel is about 1650 rpms and the clutch material is heavier. From what I have seen, the diesel torque converters are quite a bit tougher than the gas counterparts.

Right on Dave, buy a HD "Diesel Specific" convertor for any type of auto trans, 400 or 700R4. You won't be sorry!

I thought the gas stall were only about 1800??

The one I had come out of a 1/2 ton 6.2 probly why it only had 3 bolts

The early 6.2's had the 6 -Lug convertors. Later, the improved 3 -Lug replacement came out. The 3 -Lug made for the diesel application had a much heavier, welded solid lug. The gas engine convertors had a much lighter duty lug that was only tack-welded on. The new after-market H.D. convertors that I've bought recently come with the H.D. lugs, welded solid, and the other H.D. internals. My supplier still sells the 6 - Lug for us die-hards!
