Hey guys anyone ever think about putting a drop axel on a top kick?

Here is my thought pattern. I want to start a small roll-off business with at 5500 4wd (for snow plowing too) with a gvw of 25klbs. The thought being that as I grow the business I can get my CDL and toss a drop axel and raise the gvw to about 36klbs for alot less then buy a new truck.

The 4x4 5500 only comes in 19,500GVW. You would be hard pressed to find someone willing to increase the GVW of a truck. The drop axle is only to satisfy DOT bridge limits.

Axle change/addition is a legitimate reason for GVW change in all states. The hoops you have to jump through vary from state to state. Here in PA, a certified heavy truck inspection mechanic would be able to sign off the change.

The additional axle still has to be installed correctly and all other related equipment must be compatable. Part of the mechanic job is to assure this is the case.
