: 1/4 NPT fit on pass side exhaust manifold?

I just bought a VDO Vision pyro gauge. I know that most of the brands utilize a 1/8 NPT fitting for tapping into the manifold. I pulled mine out of the box and noticed that it is designed for a 1/4 NPT tap. Does anyone know if there is enough room on the manifold to step up to this larger size or is this a :badidea: ? I don't believe that the probe is long enough to adapt up from an 1/8".

You should be able to get a 1/8 NPT fitting. We put a probe in a D***e last week and it came with both size fittings. You will need a stainless steel compression fitting.

Should have enough room, but I don't know about getting the tap around all the way.
I'm sure its been done.

No problem whatsoever.

Thanks for your replies. I looked at a 1/8 compression fitting today but the inside diameter is too small for the probe. I will take Kennedy's advise and just go ahead and drill the 7/16 hole and tap er with the 1/4" NPT. I'll tackle it this Saturday. As soon as Trippin's mount arrives, the job will be finished. I hope that it's soon!

Yeah, mine is 1/4" and you should have zero issues.

Wear safety glasses (or better yet a face shield) since the chips coming from the larger tap (i.e., more clearance) are, uh, large enough that they'll do a number on your eye. Go nice and steady and you'll be fine.

Thanks everyone for your advice! Guy's Trippin Mount arrived yesterday. What a nice piece that is :D ! Well worth the $$. I already had everything pre-wired and ready to go so it only took a couple of hours to install the gauges and probe. It went very smooth thanks to all of the great info on this forum.
