When is the recommended oil change interval for the 1st oil change. What oil is recommended and how much oil will it take. Best oil filter? Synthetic? Should i just go by the owners manual. Anything different about changing it that is unlike a gasser that I need to know about?

It's an 08 with 6000 miles driven in TN and winters don't get too cold normally.
Thanks!

I do what the manual says, it tells you every thing you need to know. I prefer to keep mine stock but that's just me(GM oil and filters ect.) I live in northern Alberta Canada where it gets insanely cold(-38 right now) and have never had an issue in the 3 years I have had this truck. Hope this helps. Ed

Wow , how are your trans lines holding up?
To the op you'll get tons of opinions on all your questions, everything from follow the manual and dic to change every 3000miles with synth- and all points in between. Personally I'll change mine more frequently than the oil life monitor says and probably keep using 15w40 dino (low ash) and delco filters. I'll do this because the emissions system tends to put fuel in the oil which I'm not too comfy with and staying with ac delco filters means less hassle with warranty. I'll also use the new coalescer fuel filter to keep water out of fuel and change the allison spin on filter and fluid every other tow season. To each his own. Oh here's a tip - when you change the oil it will splash off the skid plate - making a helluva mess. Remove the plate first.

I never even thought to remove the plate. Whats it take? a few minutes? I drive my truck on ramps when I change it so Im pitched back a little and I dont get much on it until its almost all out anyways.

I cut the skid plate with a jigsaw so it pours straight down into the bucket. Its easy since its only aluminum. My.02$
