Hey so i just registered and highly doubt that anyone has tried this, but I was thinking of putting a 12v-71 detroit diesel into my 1979 1 ton suburban, and want to know any advice or ideas on how to do this right, thanks

That engine probably weighs as about much as the suburban. The right thing to do would be put it in a 60' boat.

Are you dong it to drive or to say you did it?
To drive is not practical, Trust me I have a Twin turbod 6.6 in a 72 4X4 blazer and it WAYYYYYY overkill it would roast the tires entering 2nd and continue untill I felt enough was enough when it was BONE Stock. It was on 37" toyos mind you.
That engine is WAYYY to much for a suburban use a 6.6 from a rolled or wrecked truck. Pm me when you do I can steer you right

I was gunna make it a mud truck, something like a 30 in lift on 54 in super swampers and wanted something that could really push it through any thing

Isnt this the motor that Blastolene used in Jay Lenos car? It had twin superchargers on it.

If so Im wanting to see the frame on your truck when your done and also after first mud bog :D

Jay's tank car has a 30 litre V12 gas engine out of a WWII tank that has been turbo'd and FI'd by Gale Banks. FWIW, jay calls it the tank car while the Randy (the builder) calls it the blastolene special

The same guy that built the tank car for jay built another vehicle called "Pissed off Pete" that has a 12V17 in it.

no its an all aluminum aircooled gas engine from a tank. I think its a Lycoming IIRC? Its twin turbo'd

EDIT: sorry I was wrong about it being a Lycoming...its a continental. :)

Yea that Pissed Off Pete was what I was thinking. I just remember seeing that video awhile ago and thought it was one of his but knew it had that engine in it.

Man I couldnt imagine how much of a PITA that would be putting it in a truck. The cab would be in the bed :D

I read that it weighs 3300 lbs. That sounds right for a tripped down longblock. A friend of mine has 6-71's in his boat and they weigh in close to 2700 pounds each for non turbos.
