: 06' dually with 435,000!!!!!
catdieselsmoke 12-12-2009, 11:21 PM gentlemen...
i have been debating purchasing a 4x4 dually for quite a while. i ran across this truck the other day and would like some input. i personally am scared to purchase the truck with that many miles. What are some of your thoughts? its an 06' 4x4 dually, lbz, it was used to pull campers for fema down to louisiana and florida. had a new factory installed tranny 43,000 miles ago. no leaks, body is in EXCELLENT shape, but with all of those things going for the truck i still am having a hard time getting past the mileage. let the opinions begin...
carhauler 12-12-2009, 11:32 PM how much? Mine had 231,000 when I sold it and it was not even close to being worn out but that is alot if it's not cheap , I would not pay over $7500 for it.
jtaylor11 12-12-2009, 11:34 PM They would just about have to give it to me. I travel too far from the house to trust anything on that truck with 435k. But if you can get it a a very good price and willing to take a gamble.
jtaylor11 12-12-2009, 11:38 PM how much? Mine had 231,000 when I sold it and it was not even close to being worn out but that is alot if it's not cheap , I would not pay over $7500 for it.
X2....If that truck racked up that many pulling FEMA trailers it has paid for itself many times over. So they can let it go cheap.
wellsaidfred 12-12-2009, 11:59 PM If it were me, with that mileage they would have to pay me to take it off their hands...lol.
BiggJim 12-13-2009, 12:27 AM I wouldnt touch it with that many miles....hell I wouldnt buy one with 100K
carter_44 12-13-2009, 12:35 AM haha some of these guys and their shiny new trucks. my 03 just ticked over 200k and still runs awesome. no problems at all.
what do they want for it and what are you planning on doing with it if you buy it?
DURAtotheMAX 12-13-2009, 01:05 AM hell I would buy it and drive the wheels off it just to see how long it would go. :)
when you have a truck with that many miles it just kinda makes you smile when you drive it...the fact that it has half a million miles on it and still runs great.
ben
skyhigh4by 12-13-2009, 01:26 AM If the price is right and you arnt going to rely on it as your only mod of transportation then I would go for it.
I kinda thought the big deal about diesels is that they are supposed to last a long time.
My truck has about 112k and I plan on running it to atleast 500k aslong as it lasts that long. Once I get to that point then I will probably sell it. But I do kinda want to see just how many miles it would last. Maybe if you turn 1 million miles GM will give you something special.
lotsofmiles 12-13-2009, 01:52 AM from the area your posting it was probably used for more than just fema trailers. do you know which company the truck was run with? Is it a private sale or at a dealer?
jarrett 12-13-2009, 05:57 AM I have bought two high milage (100K+) Dmaxes and have had nothing but problems. I now have a LBZ that is eating injectors at 1300 a pop. Problem is these trucks have soo many things on them that are major $$$ when they fail. A I type this Im stranded in Co with another injector failing on my 143K LBZ. This makes #3. So that 5K less I paid for the higher milage truck is biting me in the A$$ now:banghead: Lesson learned.:(
obnoxus 12-13-2009, 10:17 AM Is it Black?
I looked at that truck very seriously as I only use my truck 3-5,000 miles a year to tow the boat around.
OldSoldier 12-13-2009, 01:35 PM Way too many miles for me. Do the numbers...if it's three and a half years old, that's 124,300 a year, or 10,400 a month, or 2,600 a week, or 370 a day...and that's working 24/7. Somebody has driven the crap out of that truck.
robbieyukon 12-13-2009, 01:38 PM If you could get the truck for very cheap I would do it. There are so many options because everything can be rebuilt or bought in crate form. If the motor goes, but another or do a swap. The trans should last a long time since its pretty new. I bet the interior is nice except for the drivers area, just redo it.
Muddauber 12-13-2009, 02:14 PM That sounds like a good work truck, or an around town vehicle. If they have the maintence records with it that would be a plus for your peace of mind. As long as the price is nice and low, as you may need the money for some of the other things like front end suspension parts, shocks, fuel pump, etc. because it doesn't seem they would have had much time to take it to the shop very often.

OK enough feedback How much are they asking?
tinypeckerwood 12-13-2009, 03:32 PM I wanna know too! Thats alot of miles, I want mine to get that many!
2004dmax 12-13-2009, 05:40 PM at 7500 i would buy it if i were you, thats a lot of truck and it ran down the highway all it life it sounds like, trucks that spend most the time running are better than those started and stopped all the time.
01Duramax6spd 12-13-2009, 06:52 PM I'd want to see pic's but I'd think $5000 would buy it. I've seen a little rougher reg cab 1tons for $3800 that needed injectors and had 200K on em.
wellsaidfred 12-13-2009, 08:57 PM haha some of these guys and their shiny new trucks. my 03 just ticked over 200k and still runs awesome. no problems at all.
LMAO yep mine is still shiny, I've had it 2 years and just turned 4000 miles on it.
carter_44 12-14-2009, 12:23 AM LMAO yep mine is still shiny, I've had it 2 years and just turned 4000 miles on it.
the poor truck is still a virgin. pop that cherry already.
catdieselsmoke 12-14-2009, 02:47 PM sorry it took me a bit to get back to you all... i appreciate all of your opinions. i have a landscape business and would be pulling a trailer with it and pushing snow in the winters. what is interesting is when you type in the specs on the truck on nada or kelly bb the truck is still worth 26,000 to 28,000!!!! i absolutely couldnt believe it. when i went to talk to the salesman about it he said they want 18,900 for it and i about Shat myself because they still want that kind of money for a truck with close to half a million miles on it. i cant understand the logic behind that but that is why i wanted to ask some folks who have them to see if im just crazy or if this dealer is crazy... i think ive made my decision. just out of curiosity why the heck does the truck retain its value with mileage like that???
lotsofmiles 12-14-2009, 03:32 PM for a comparison I was thinking about getting a new truck a couple months ago.
dealer offered 12,000 trade in.
Rodeo_Joe 12-14-2009, 03:36 PM I got 381,000on mine. still goin strong an original everythin. replaced 1 injector an a couple power steering pumps, an a steering box. I tow upwards of 30,000lbs
Chevy_Duramax_Man 12-14-2009, 04:32 PM It's all about how well they're cared for. I got my 06 with 128,000 miles, it smells new, looks new, drives new, no blow-by, no burning of oil, nothing wrong. It's just like a new truck.
carhauler 12-14-2009, 08:20 PM sorry it took me a bit to get back to you all... i appreciate all of your opinions. i have a landscape business and would be pulling a trailer with it and pushing snow in the winters. what is interesting is when you type in the specs on the truck on nada or kelly bb the truck is still worth 26,000 to 28,000!!!! i absolutely couldnt believe it. when i went to talk to the salesman about it he said they want 18,900 for it and i about Shat myself because they still want that kind of money for a truck with close to half a million miles on it. i cant understand the logic behind that but that is why i wanted to ask some folks who have them to see if im just crazy or if this dealer is crazy... i think ive made my decision. just out of curiosity why the heck does the truck retain its value with mileage like that???
This dealer does not need to sell this truck because he is making enough of selling the dope he is not smoking himself.
catdieselsmoke 12-14-2009, 09:00 PM This dealer does not need to sell this truck because he is making enough of selling the dope he is not smoking himself.
ha ha thats great... see that is what i thought but after looking at NADA and kbb i just couldnt believe a truck like that, despite being only 3 years old and in stellar shape, would ever go for close to 20 g's. just doesnt make any sense.
robbieyukon 12-14-2009, 09:11 PM That truck at auction wouldn't bring sh!t and they know this. The "black book" value on this truck is likely $3,000. Let the dealer keep it. Nobody is going to purchase that 3500 until is under $10,000.
robbieyukon 12-14-2009, 09:13 PM My 2006 2500HD must still be worth $40k LOL! and I have 10% of the miles.
carhauler 12-14-2009, 09:22 PM It seems in this economy the "book" value is pretty much gone,it's what someone will pay if a dealer has a buyer ( and they always do) it's worth what the buyer will pay. My 06 in near perfect shape with alot of options and a big fuel tank ,real air ride and 231 thou was worth $15000 to $16000 because the dealer had pretty much a list of buyers for that kind of truck. When I was looking to trade I saw alot of like trucks with 70 to 90 thou for $16 to $20 thou on lots in CA/OR/WA and $20 to $26 thou on Ebay for 05 and 06 Duallys.
carter_44 12-15-2009, 12:37 AM blue book doesnt hold much value these days it is all about finding the right buyer. that dealer has his head up his ass. i can find lbzs in my area for under 20K on a pretty regular basis. lb7s go for under 10k all the time. i paid 9500 for my 03 with lots of toys and 200K miles. clean truck with no problems and i am good friends with the original owner. keep looking. the deals are out there.
when i sold my 02 less than a year ago i got like 15K for it and it was beat to hell with 160K miles. i couldnt believe it. all about the buyer.
catdieselsmoke 12-15-2009, 07:36 AM Thanks again Guys. Whether it means anything or not to you i made my decision because of what i have gathered from this thread. Thanks again. I am not in great need of a dually now, but will be my next purchase. The truck just happened to be exactly what i wanted (excluding miles:rolleyes:). If you know of any crew cab, long bed, 4x4, dually's around your area let me know im ready to purchase after first of next year hopefully. Thanks again, and have a good holiday.
jon5212 12-15-2009, 10:05 AM Just FYI... my dad's 05 LLY 3500 crew cab dually has over 300K miles on it... its on it's 2nd engine but the body is in great shape and it runs/drives pretty much new.
I believe he paid 9 for his truck.
snowmanwi 12-15-2009, 10:09 AM Just broke in 500 to go!
Now wait just a minute. Am i understanding this? Some one actually uttered the words "I want $18,900 American." For a used automobile, with FOUR HUNDRED AND THIRTY-FIVE THOUSAND miles? Only in America.I'm gonna stick my head back in the sand now. Stuff makes more sense there. SHEEESHHH!!!

yes, my friend. there are some very stupid americans. i mean...look who got elected for president. the impossible has happened. this country is in the fast lane to disaster with that monkey running things.
Politics, religion and the herpes virus are things best kept to one's self. This was not a political discussion. And you, are not my friend.
carhauler 12-19-2009, 02:37 PM I have noticed the moderators seem to be on Vacation?
Carl Lassiter 12-19-2009, 02:51 PM 18,900 what a joke. while I believe these trucks can run well past 1/2m miles, any seller listing that rig at more than $9,995 (and a hefty discount of that would be needed) is simply clueless.

simply stating that some ridiculous stuff can happen. no need to get testy. yes, almost 19k is crazy for that truck.
MrCerretti 12-20-2009, 02:23 PM cant wait till I hit 400k......i am only at 37k, got a few months to go
01Duramax6spd 01-01-2010, 01:44 PM Here's an 02 with 500K
