Dont run it in the winter if its cold where you are. The 180* will be fine in winter. 160* is too cold for winter and takes to long to warm up making gas mileage drop.

Goto your local speed shop or I went to Jegs and ordered a Hypertech for like a 99 K3500 with a 454. Think part number is 1005. Heres where I got mine..... http://www.jegs.com/i/Hypertech/533/1005/10002/-1#

I run a 160 year round in my 5.3 as well as my moms 6.0. It gets down to the teens here and I have no issues. It heats up just as fast as the 195 but it stops warming up at 165. I run 168-172 year round.

The trucks go into closed loop at 155. As long as you run above that you will be fine.

In fact, my mileage went up...

I run the SLP brand tstat.

Mileage went up? Hmm. Also I bet its running more than 172*. Log it and see.

I have an aeroforcetech gauge that always is reading it.

A/C on in the summer on the highway it runs 172-176.

Winter on the highway it hits 168 and stays there all the time. Summer without the air on it runs 170-172. It has been really consistant.

I also have the clutch fan on the 5.3 and it keeps it running cooler since it is always spinning a little bit.

Yes, my mileage went up. Call me crazy but I have logged it the last 30k miles...It is proven on these two vehicles.

Well hey you certainly cant complain about that. Mines usually running bout 182* constant in the heat of summer. Havent logged in winter as I really dont care. Changing it out to 180* today as 160* takes too damn long to warm up. I swear my mielage has dropped since its gotten colder out. Couldnt really tell in summer but have since. Not that I get any mileage anyways.
