: New Crossmember (pics)
goodwrenchtech 12-11-2009, 10:24 PM Mike L. has had an idea for years and now it is not just in his head. Guy at Socal built this and Mike L. Had it sent to me. All I can say is I love the way it looks and if you bend it you are doing something very wrong. Please if you have any ? as to how it was built or any tech on the peace please ask them as all I did was install it on my truck. 07.5 GMC HD
Now for the pics. If yall want more just ask and I can take more.
Deagon Kennels 12-11-2009, 10:55 PM Why would someone need this?
Does it do the same thing as the transfer case brace?
Please explain.
Pure Diesel 12-11-2009, 11:14 PM If you look in the last picture, it raise the support above the frame. The factory one hangs down below the frame waiting to hit on something.

I assume this was a snide remark because if you were stupid enough to ask the question for real, you would be driving a Dodge. I will give you the benefit.
The crossmember is for people that want the ugly hang down unit gone for appearance sake, like me. The factory member quite often high centers on crests and will be the first thing ro catch and bend offroading. I have replaced a bunch of bent ones in my shop.
I have found the transfer case brace an excellent safety precausion for shattered cases on the strip during drag racing keeping the broken case suspended and not dropping on the surffice where the rear tires can run over them at high speeds.

Cool, I didn't even notice it at first. Thanks.

Wake up on the wrong side of the bed? There was no snide remark intended. I was just curious if it was something I needed.
Thanks for calling me stupid for asking a question though.
bc6819 12-18-2009, 08:53 AM that looks sweet....Question ..... how can the people that want this part get one .....

Just remember when you remove the stock one and someone goes out and high centers the truck with the new one what get's bent? It's called the transmission pan. This is just a looks deal but the stock one serves more than one purpose and that is to protect the transmission and from the ones you claim to have replaced it looks like they have been doing there job!

have you botered to look under the truck with the stock x member, put a deep pan on it and it hangs down past quite alot, i would almost bet that even the stock pan still hangs down aways and that crossmember is for the transfer case anyways there is no shield persay for the trans.

And years before these guys thought of it, DJM started making them. The DJM one does the same thing and costs 260 vs 385 and you can bolt your stock skid plate to it v.s paying 65 for the special one. This one looks cooler though.
