People beware - I was in the process of putting my truck back to stock with a hypertech programmer - it came up with a message saying it was interupted (which it was not) and locked up the controls for my truck. I called Hypertech and they basically blamed me for disturbing the process. I have done this many times but this time it screwed up- SO - $160 tow to GM, they want 2300 for a new ECM which they say was screwed up by the Hypertech and god knows how much for there labor bill, The GM rep at the dealerships says they have had a lot of problems caused by these Hypertech units and clearly states they should not be used - he even told me of one guy that had to sped 10,000 fixing his engine.

I read the Hypertech manual and it clearly states that if the program does lock the program and the truck will not start then IT WOULD NOT HARM THE COMPUTER - they further stated that the programmer and the vehicle control module should be returned for repair. I called them on this and they said the only thing they would do is reset the programmer -- and would do nothing else for me

If you have one throw it in the garbage - if you are thinking of buying one you would be well advised to stay away.

Hypertech is lying through their teeth in the manual and WILL NOT back their product.

THUMBS DOWN TO HYPERTECH-- it will destroy your truck

IIRC you just have to get the dealer to reflash the ECM. Then send back your hypertech to have it reset

Yes -- we tried that -- they could not get in or communicate with it - the GM dealer even called Hypertech - hypertech told them to take the fuses out of the stereo and a couple or other - NO GO-- the technician says the programmer screwed it up, -- I was able to locate and order a used ECM for a 2002 - GM says they can reprogram that - still - it is still going to cost me a grand - no thanks to Hypertech -- NEVER AGAIN __

This programmer is going in the garbage.

If you have not done the final say to do it, then get with some of the EFILive tuners here and buy an ECM through them. It just plugs in and be at least less than half if not more than you have for that bill. Give Nick from www.duramaxtuner.com a call. He should be able to help you out.

I have a hypertech and have never had a problem in either my dmax or my 4.3L gas

Thanks Tanc
I will look into it

The other fellow says he never had a problem but neither did I until this time

I would not put Hypertech tuning on anything - especially after their manual declared no damage to the computer and fixing a buggered up computer

Pretty poor - Sorry but proof is in the pudding -- best to leave things alone unless you are prepared for the consequence.

My mistake is - I trusted Hypertech

Be curious if it really is messed up. Connect it to a Flashscan V2 in a stand-alone harness and it may be able to be programmed. It worth a shot after you get the truck back up and running with a different ECM.

Hey Tanc

Can you elaborate a bit more on this - can they do this to the one that is in the truck now??

On thing that really confuses me is that the dome lights in the truck do not work -- the side courtesy lights on the door panels do.

Anything you can tell me would be greatly appreciated.

I have this truck sold and need to get it up and running asap

Thanks

What i am referring to is EFIlive Flashscan V2 and use a harness that allows power and communications to the ECM outside of the vehicle. GM uses a GM Tech II and as far as I know never seen a stand-alone cable. Many tuners that sell ECMs already tuned have made these cables to connect the ECM, TCM, PCM to the flashscan for programming. Who has one I do not know. If it is sold and only needs just an ECM I call Nick and have him set you up with a stock tune ECM. The last time I looked on his site when listed it was around $400 for one. And it is just plugs in so you can do that yourself.

Why $1000? A guy on ebay sells PCMs reprogrammed to your vin already for $200 or so. Thats where i had to get mine when the dealer tried to sell me one lol.

Here check this guy out. It looks it may be less than $200, send him a msg if it isnt listed. He will also give you $75 back if he can get your old PCM working.

I wouldn't worry about that till you get your truck running. Good possibalty that when you get the ECM issuse ironed out the dome light might go back to working. These trucks will do some odd things when one electral thing acts up.
