I have an 05 d/a that is making an intermittent noise under slight to moderate acceleration usually worse between 1500-2200 rpm. This noise is hard to describe but sounds similar to gasser with a miss in it. It comes and goes with no specific pattern. The truck has a Banks cat back and an EGR blocker. It has about 7000 miles on it and the noise has gotten steadily worse since about 2000 miles. Any suggestions?

I would have to say one of the hardest things in the world to do is relate a noise to someone. Usually even face to face it can't be done, with the person trying to emulate the noise, much less via text like on here.

Good luck with it. To get help here you will for sure have to be more descriptive about the noise than what you have given so far.

to me, from experience of our LB7 doing similar hard to describe noises ended up being water flubbing over the injectors, and ended up ruining them...hope that's not the case in yours. good luck

could be the pilot injection you're hearing..thats about the rpm's the tranny shifts at and this can be heard just before it shifts. the sound is similar to a gasser that is pinging from bad gas.

sound similar?

does it sound like a metal "jingling" sound? I have had this on and off for some time on my 05.

Sorry I cant be more descriptive of the sound, but I cant think of a good way to describe it. The truck does it most of the time, not just when shifting. It runs fine, just doesnt sound right. The noise seems to be coming from the drivers side foot well(I have read some posts on the "tap" noise at idle from this area) but I dont know if this is related. I have had the reflash done with no change in the noise. Does anyone know how I could record the noise and post it?

Bartman, I have the same ungodly noise in my 05...It's driving me crazy. At first I thought it was a loose heat shield or something along those lines, it wasn't and have yet to find it.

I have an 04 with the LLy and 16000 miles. I recently installed a Banks exhaust and a Edge EZ. I have noticed at low RPMs and low temperture I get a loud clatter. It seems to get better when the engine gets to full operating temps. I think it may have something to do with the Edge and the timing advance. Any of you guys see these things?

I started to notice the noise @ approx 3,000 miles and before the Edge. Now I'm @ approx 12,000 miles and the noise is still growing in intensity. I'm going to install my Banks exhaust today and while I'm under there will play with a few other components to try and find it. Will keep you all posted.
