: Exterior Door Handles w/ Key holes in rear doors?

My '03 Dmax is a base model crew cab. Therefore it is somewhat difficult to lock and unlock the rear doors when my 1 and 2 year old boys are riding with me (no pwr locks). Could I add keyed door handles (like the ones in the front doors) to the rear doors so I could use a key to unlock the doors from the outside instead of reaching over the front seats? I always lock the rear doors so no one can just run up and open the doors at a stoplight or something, but my wife is short and can't reach the rear door locks from the inside very easily. Using the keyed handles in the rear would allow her to safely lock the doors and have an easy time unlocking it to get the kids out.

Plus, if this is doable, I'll just tell her I have to order the handles from Eric and they only come painted with chrome pulls. ;) Safety and style!

Thanks

Guess no one has tried this yet. I may just call Eric and order them and give it a try pending his return policy.

IIRC there was some issue with putting them in the rears maybe Eric will know for sure.

The inner door panels come off very easily. You should be able to tell if the handle off the front will work on the rear just by looking.

I dont know what a set of handles will run you, but you could look into doing a kit by spal for the keyless entry that will come with motors for the locks and remotes. Check with the local stereo shops for that add or an acc shop out there, they might have it with a different name as well, you could always do the alarm system types as well but for siplicity just do the keyless set up.

I bet you could get the stock keyless entry installed easily too. Might ask eric about that. I am sure max power will see this thread and post his thoughts as well.

I would install an aftermarket keyless entry system. They are pretty cheap and not too difficult to install. You can buy the kit for under $100.

He doesn't have power locks how is he going to put on keyless entry without have to add an actuator on the locks.

Never mind crewcabs suggestion uses actuators.
