My truck has 30k on it. At 12.5k I had the dealer flush the trans. I have drained the pan, suction filter, and replaced the spin on filter. I ordered 5 gallons of Transynd from one of the advertisers on this forum.
My question is does the dexIII and transynd have the same color? Because what I am removing looks the same as what I just poured into the new spin on filter. The 5 gal bucket says Transynd on it.
I am just about to remove the trans line to pump the fluid out of the torque converter and I am wondering how I tell the old from the new. I could swear I read in here somewhere that someone said the two are different colors.
I know the dealer used DexIII at 12.5k when they did the flush.
HELP.
Thanks

I am trying to get mine flushed Locally and nobody claims to be able to do it becuase the Allison has some odd fittings... Are you doing it yourself??? If so how are you pumping it out...
I am at 16,500 Mi. and will be throwing in Amsoil TorqueDrive but can't figure where to pump from on the truck since nobody seems to have the correct fittings.. I wouldn't trust the locla dealers to tighten my Lug-Butz they are all these 18 yr. old kids who change oila nd thats about it!!!

Motohead,
The bucket should also say "Synthetic Trans fluid" on it.
And you should do the pump out by volume about a gallon or two.
Big will,
There was a write up about it by Hoot I think on how to flush the tranny yourself.
Basically
1. drop the pan
2. change filter's
3. Reinstall pan
4. Add new fluid equel to fluid amount removed + 1 gallon or so
5. Remove the return line from the cooler going into the tranny and add a length of rubber hose to the line to direct the fluid into a bucket.
6. Start truck and the tranny will pump out the fluid thru the disconnected line, which flushes out your tranny cooler.
7. When you have pumped about a gallon out, (which happens very quickly so have a friend starting and stopping the truck for you). stop the truck.
8. Reconnect the cooler line to the tranny and then recheck your fluid level.
Now when I did my tranny I also installed the Mag-tec larger pan and I used about 5 gallons total, if you have the stock pan you will use less.
Also I don't exatly remember if it was 1 gallon or 2 to pump out to flush the cooler, but what ever it is don't overfill your tranny too much as it will just leak out a overflow vent and make a mess on the floor. If you do 2 gallons stop the truck after 1 and then add 1 more gallon and do it again.
If I find Hoot's instructions which also included pictures I'll post it.

Edit:
I searched for the instruction's but every time there was a link to it it was deleted.
I don't know why maybe it's filed somewhere else and Nick or Chad could revive it as it was a good write up.

Look for hoot in the user listing, or find one of his posts. He has a link to 2001 dmax in his sig.
