Hello all,
I have done some research on this topic but was wondering if anyone on this forum has installed shocks on their fiver or trailer?
If so, did you notice any difference?
Thanks in advance...

Jim

Sorry I can't give you exact info on this, but I have read that there are kits available to do what you ask (as I was thinking about it myself). You might look over at RV.net website as I think that is where I read about it. :o:

I have shocks on my Tripple-e fiver (F240), less bouncing, on bad roads, ride almost like a car, suggest to have wheels ballanced too

I installed shocks on my Keystone Laredo 29BH 5VER. It made a nice difference. All I get on a big bump at most is 1 and half of bounce. Things don't seem to move around in the camper much anymore. I made my own kit and installed myself. Good luck to ya.

Boatcruiser,
Any chance of posting pics of your shock mounts? I have a bike rack on the end of my TT that really seem to get whipped around. I think that shocks would definitely help that out.

I am planning on putting shocks on my 5'er as well (tripple axle). I was just spec'n it out last week when I was greasing the shackle bolts.

Here is a couple of links that I had bookmarked

Thank you for your responses. I did some research at RV.NET as well and found that Monroe Shock Retrofit kit is the only "purchasable" option. It looks like depending on your application, according to "shockwarehouse.com" it going to cost around $350 + shipping.

I'm just trying to see what I can do to reduce some of the bounce I get going over bridges when I am double pulling the boat behind my 5ver.

Thanks again...

Does anyone know if you have to put a pair of shocks on both axles or will you get bounce improvement by doing just one?

Wuncool,

My trailer came with shocks. One pair per axle seems to be the norm. Because these were installed by the trailer manufacturer, I can't give you a before and after evaluation, but it is much better than other, "unshocked" trailers I've towed, and even after traveling over really crappy roads (and in my region of CA, they are all crappy), the stuff inside the trailer is still where I put it.

I guess I am a little lucky in that my 5er did not come with them, but all the mounts are there. I went to the RV dealer and the service manager loaned me one so I could try to find an equivalent aftermarket shock of higher quality and better price. I did and I am ordering them tomorrow for $40 each. A bit steep for the little buggers, but I have heard it will help quite a bit.

My travel trailer came with shocks. It makes a diff in vibration. I need to do the next step and have the trailer tires balanced.

If anyone is interested in the Monroe retrofit kit, I just ordered one from www.shockwarehouse.com (http://www.shockwarehouse.com). They are doing free shipping and handling through the end of June. Seemed like a good deal. I just don't feel like buying all of the parts and welding everything on so I went for the bolt on kit. Once I get the static length for the mounts, I will buy shocks locally.
