: Have I waited too long to de-badge my HD?

I have an '03 GMC 2500HD that I've finally decided to de-badge. I'm going to remove the GMC and Sierra emblems from the tailgate, the SLT badge from the pillar, and the 4x4 decals from the rear fenders.

Here's the question. This truck has spent half of its life(2 years as of next week) parked outside in Oregon, and the last year parked in the garage. Do you think the paint has faded enough to make it obvious if I debadge it?

I'm not sure how long it takes paint to fade.

If I manage to remove the stickers, I'm also going to swap the grill and try to find replacement caps for the wheels(or modify the existing ones). I intend to leave the 2500HD and Duramax badges though.

Thanks,
Lorne

Lorne I just debadged my 03 last weekend including the 4x4 decals, Duramax, 2500HD from the doors and both badges from the tailgate. I then had the truck fully power polished and waxed (just because I wanted to make the paint shine more). Before the detailing I didn't notice any difference at all from faded paint and my truck has never been garage parked, and its a dark color.

As a side note I replaced the Duramax badge last night after the detail, but I put them on the angled part of the hood where the hood bulges up for the raised center section. Has anyone else done this? I like the look of it.

I am thinkin about debadgin my 02 Summit white. I wonder if it will work ok. I know there is goop you can use to remove some scratches. Maybe it can be used to reduce the difference in color (if ther is any)?

I de-badged my 03 summit white after 1.5 years ...no problems. Couldn't tell where the badges were. Picts in sig.

Thanks for the input! My truck is medium blue(Marine blue? I think). I will probably give it a shot, I can always put new stickers on or replace the old badges if the color difference is too great.

I debadged my white '02 last month. Truck is 3+ years old, and only sees the garage at night. No change in paint color from previously exposed paint to newly exposed paint.

However, and a big however, underneach the body side molding beneath the fuel filler door, all of the paint where the adhesive was, has been tinted a very light yellow; I attribute this to diesel running down when I wasn't carefull filling, and some type of reaction between the diesel and adhesive. You have to get close, and look at that panel to see it, but being anal, I see it every time I get in the truck!

I have not been able to do anything with removing the yellow tint; it is in the paint now, it seems, and not in the clear coat (don't know how that could occur?). Anyone have a suggestion for dealing with it, I will be glad to consider it.

Even with the yellow tint, the overall effect of removing all the badging was worth it to me.

heavy 40lb test monofillement fishing line, raped around two small dowells, just get under the moulding or emblem and work it kind of like a saw,A hair drier sometimes helps.(do not use a heat gun its to easy to burn paint)
