: normal temps are...........?
05LLY2500HD 06-06-2005, 11:04 PM What are the normal operating temps of say a SC III? Mine was always running 150* at the most. I pulled my 5er about 1100 miles and it got up to 200* which I shrugged off. Now even in mild driving I see 200* very easily no hot rodding whatsoever, never noticed it before. No other "symptoms" to speak of. Any one?
Diesel Dragon 06-06-2005, 11:52 PM Your tranny temps depend on a few thing's and outside air temp is one.
In winter I'm lucky if I see 150
Now I'm about 175 driving empty.
If I do a lot of in town driving with TC unlocked I'll see 200
If i leave the tow/haul switch on and do the same in town driving temps will stay cooler, about 175.
So try to leave it in tow/haul if you can.
Since it's probally hot where you are you might want to invest in a MikeL tranny cooler which should help keep the temps down. Mine's on it's way as we type.

05LLY2500HD 06-07-2005, 12:01 AM 88* or hotter by the rear view mirror, a/c on 64 or so, highway 75 or 80mph cruise. And factory tranny guage reads 200* Edge on 5, Predator on 1.
Forest Lake LLY 06-07-2005, 09:32 AM 05LLY2500HD,
Wondering who else drove further than me to get thier SCIII done? Anyway, ditto on this post as well. Start saving for your tranny cooler. Stock trucks are having temp issues with bigger loads. My temp's jumped after the install also.
Mike L. 06-07-2005, 10:13 AM Ally temps will rise a bit when the Transgo converter flow valve is installed. ( which is included in the SC 3 kit).
05LLY2500HD 06-07-2005, 11:22 PM But I never noticed this until now after I pulled my 5er. I'm sure if it ever got that hot before I would have known.
MaXXed 06-15-2005, 12:29 PM Funny thing, now that my truck is breaking in I'm starting to see trans temps in the 200-210F range- empty, no trailer. When I first got the truck it never broke 160F, WTF? It seems like sitting in traffic really heats it up, and trans temps at 210F make me nervous. Guess it's time to consider a Mike L cooler, I guess. The dealer is just going to tell me that it's "normal".

GMC-2002-Dmax 06-16-2005, 08:41 AM It seems that the LLY's run hotter than the LB7's.......
I have a modified transmission and the only change is a deep sump PML Pan from MIKE L.
I see 160-180 degrees.
I am installing the cooler this Sunday and will hopefully see the temps that usually run up to 180 settle in at 150-160.
The Cooler is a wise investment.

jay p 06-22-2005, 08:33 PM I get 130 to 140 empty and 190 pulling my trailer in the summer. I'm lucky to get over 100 in the winter with the cold front on the grill.
Jackpine 06-22-2005, 10:15 PM Mike L tranny cooler on order, and also adding a ATS deep dish tranny pan and differential back plate. I'll be towing my boat to MN in a few weeks, and buying a 5er in August. I'm taking evasive action now so I don't have any disappointments or surprises later this summer. I don't want to have to explain to the better half why my macho 45K truck is over heating.
coyotekid 06-23-2005, 01:29 AM I'm also interested in Mike's cooler. My concern is winter driving. Is the tranny going to run too cold?
Mike L. 06-23-2005, 10:03 AM Kelly
The cooler will not run too cold as it goes into the rafiator first.
