Awesome stuff. Do a search, there are a couple of good threads on it.

IIRC, it has alcohol in it (from what I was told??)? My service manager said that GM to STAY AWAY FROM ALCOHOL additives..... Just food for thought. It is supposed to dry seals, etc. up. I know that they recommend Stanadyne.

If you run some type of additive every tank or even everyother tank, Sea Foam probably isn't going to do alot or nothing at all.
If it does you want some new additive.
But yes Sea Foam is some good stuff.

kcb is right, you wont see amazing results as a fuel additive is you run a good additive on a regular basis. I run a bottle in the crankcase for about 100 miles before an oil change to get rid of any sludge or deposits that might be there. I know that the stuff works wonders from results with previous vehicles. It saved me a couple hundred in repair bills on a Mercury 200 XR6.

Pat

After u ran it in the crankcase did u notice any sludge in the oil when u changed it. I may do this myself. 3 finally got the egr blocked and after what I saw in the intake horn when I put my boost gauge I would like to try to clean up any part of the engine I can. I wish there was a way to spry it into the intake

I use it to prime the fuel filter during a change.

I use it to prime the fuel filter during a change.

You pour a whole bottle into the fuel filter then screw it on? How does the engine run on just SeaFoam? I would think that it's got a higher octane/cetane than gasoline!@?!

I pour it in about halfway and then prime with the pump. So there's a 50/50 mix seafoam and diesel by time I start it. It starts up and runs great. I'm not gonna say that I notice these huge differences but It was a recommendation I got and tried and it seems to work pretty good.

I didn't notice any sludge. If there was sludge in there to start with, Seafoam basically "re-liquefies" it. I use Rotella 15w-40, so having a good oil to start with helps. For me, putting Seafoam in the crankcase is a peace of mind thing. I have seen how it destroys sludge and varnish, so it gives me a good feeling knowing that I have a clean motor.

As for the deposits in the intake. Keep the PCV intact for now. Blocking the EGR eliminates the source of the soot. The theory is that the oil mist from the PCV will break up the deposits in the intake and self clean over time. Seafoam in the crankcase may speed up the process. Again, just a theory.

Back in the day we used to put a qt of diesel in the crankcase to clean an engine.
There has to be some irony in there somewhere.:D

It says right on the bottle that it's great for keeping injectors clean/lubes upper cylinders/fuel conditioner/anti-gel/etc..I put a bottle in the tank fairly often..my buddy has had injector problems on his truck 4x over the last 3 years..me-0. (Knock on wood) I also add it my toys and also in the fuel cell for the generator on the trailer. Though I haven't seen an immediate notice in the truck-it gives me peace of mind..if you throw some in your sputtering dirtbike or quad..you'll HEAR a noticeable difference after just a few minutes of idling. Can be used on 2-stroke,4-stroke,gas,diesel motors. I even throw some in the lawnmower!!:D 1oz per gallon of fuel..so the 16oz bottle technically isn't enough for a full tank of fuel. My .02 Good luck!!

Run Stanadyne in your fuel.

From their website.

I stand corrected, Thank you!!!! I have used it in my gassers for a while (mower, ATV, other gasser vehicles, etc.), and have always had good luck with it. I believe it is a good product and makes a difference in how it cleans stuff up.

k9duramax is correct - Seafoam does contain IPA (isopropyl alcohol). See section 2 of the msds below (available form seafoam web page). I like Seafoam and use it in my gas truck and car, boat and yard equipment and have also used it to “clean” the motors before an oil change – but will not use it in the diesel fuel of my 2008 truck.

Radar, don't worry- it's all good....:coolnana: We've all been there- done that and am sure it will happen to us (all) at some point or another!!!

Ya...I know. Not the first or last time that I'll be wrong. I saw "100% Petroleum" on the web page, and didn't think of checking the MSDS. Guess I fell for the marketing.:)

I did to guys (fell for the marketing of an all petro product) - used it in my diesel truck for a while - then someone told me it had alcohol so I looked for myself. That's what I like about this board - someone has been there and we all share info so we can all learn - I've learned so much here - It's all good.

I guess it depends on what your definition of "petroleum" is. IPA (isopropyl alcohol) is a hydrocarbon. It's made by the hydration of propene which is a product of cracking fossil fuels (oil or coal).

I use Seafoam in all of my gas engines, big and small. Would this be safe to use in the fuel of my stock LMM with the DPF? Will it harm the DPF?
