The 6.2-6.5 diesel page had a article about someone putting one in a 95ish half ton 4x4 stepside regular cab pickup. PITA if you ask me. But thats what its all about....doing or having something someone else doesnt...expecially if YOU built it.
I am proud to say that all my projects, (even though some mickey moused and ugly because they were built from junk laying around) were built by me, drove by me, then destroyed by me. But that was in my rockcrawling days.........
I saw a bumper sticker one time that said" BUILT, NOT BOUGHT"
But then again, If money wasnt a problem....hell, I'd try anything twice with the nicest of the nicest. Always wanted a corvette with a 6.2 diesel.
Back to the main part of the thread......if you are serious...get a complete wrecked d-max truck with the drivtrain you want and go to town. That way, you have harness, wiring, tranny, etc. and most importantly..a somewhat of a map , so you know what goes where and etc.

id like to drop one in my 70 chevelle which i just took a deposit on unfortunatly it would be intresting to take it to the track just to see the looks and stares...just think a car rolls up it leaves with little engine noise and a cloud of soot... with som minor work a dmax would turn some times i think i know its crazy but different atleast

Now that would be a neat swap kind of like the 6.2 in a corvette I saw an article on.

i would suspect a fedex truck would have a minimum amount of unnessacary wiring my friend has a hotdog truck thats converted fedex 6.5 nonturbo it aint got near the mess i have on my chevy pu...what about a marine harness if one exists sooner or later you might find a painless harness they make them for alot of other stuff

I saw a complete 6.6L on ebay go for $200. All that was wrong was a pin hole leak through the outer wall of the block letting coolant out. I think a little brazing would fix that.

That someone is Jim Bigley owner of TDP. It was and is an on going project. It not as easy as just swapping enigines. You need the whole wiring harrness and all the associatied electronics that go with the D-Max. There was some frame and structural issues that also needed working through. Jim got 'R done took him a couple 3 years and he's been driving the truck for at least a year plus. He calls it his hot rod and that it is. For my buck I'd stick with a 6.5 in a 6.5 outfit if you want a DuraBux save your dollars used ones are getting cheaper everyday. If you are serrious about dropping a D-Max into something that hasn't had one then don't be a cheap skate....Join The Diesel Page for $20 and get the whole story. Then call Jim he's a decent enough guy and I'm sure he would be happy to share his insights to help you make the swap happen easier.
But again since you got a N/A 6.5 it would be easier to put a Turbo 6.5 as you don't need electronics on it with the ala 1993 style set up.
