: Diesel Fired Heater Questions......
Max Owner 12-06-2009, 11:19 PM Hey all.
I'm at a job where I can't plug my truck in at. So I'm gonna start looking into a diesel fired heater like say a Webasto.
What types, makes models would be good?
Cost will definitely be an issue for me.......:(
ob_1jr 12-07-2009, 06:03 AM you might be better off getting a remote start...most of them have timers that you can set to start every 3 hours. The webasto or espar heaters are pretty expensive.
Max Owner 12-07-2009, 02:12 PM Good thought ob_1jr.
I'm looking at $2300 to $2500 for an Espar.
Thanx for the reply.
turbomax123 12-07-2009, 08:32 PM I would do myself a favor if I had 2500.00 to drop on a heater I would just build a 1 truck heated garage for alittle more and have a place to clean it or work on it too.

That's too much. $1000 will buy you and Espar and install it yourself in an afternoon. I just sold my slightly used Espar for $700.

Everything in Grande Prairie is expensive...........
emerson 12-07-2009, 10:27 PM Listen to max, I bought mine from a vendor on DP in the states and put it in in my parent's driveway in Yellowknife. It was -44C in Yellowknife and the truck started up with coolant temp of 150 degrees. I was using it this morning in here in PG, but only -27C. Don't let some dealer quote you 12 hours of labour to install either. You can T into the fuel return behind the fuel cooler for fuel supply and since the return goes back into the tank through a pickup that's not quite as long as the other one, your heater won't run you out of fuel for starting. Are you running 0W40 oil and good batteries?
Max Owner 12-07-2009, 11:00 PM Just put in 0W40 synthetic last week. New Interstate batteries just about a year and half ago.
Self installation I will have to look into.
LTChip 01-01-2010, 07:55 PM Which DP vendor sells the Espar?

LTChip 01-02-2010, 04:04 PM Ok thanks.
Would this device kill your battery if the truck were left unattended for 20 days?
LtEng5 01-02-2010, 04:26 PM if you are going to leave it for that long just turn it off as you will be out of fuel before you get back. even at a burn rate of .03 gph; the 26 gal tank in your truck wont last that long.
Max Power 01-02-2010, 04:46 PM Ok thanks.

If it was running it would kill the battery in less then a day.
LTChip 01-02-2010, 04:48 PM Right.
I have to leave the truck for a while and don't want to leave it plugged in the whole time but I want it to start when I get back. I also occasionally leave it at the airport for weeks at a time and it is very cold here. So, using this with the FOB, I could just activate it when I land and it will start easier and be warmer when I go to start it - yes?
Max Power 01-02-2010, 05:07 PM You would likely need to run it for about an hour to warm it up enough to help it start.
LtEng5 01-02-2010, 05:17 PM so after even more reading on these units -
for the guys with the water heater units - how are you controlling the cab fan if the key is in "off" position. for my truck I can not run any fan/heat/ac without being in atleast "on" not just in the "acc" position
Max Power 01-02-2010, 05:18 PM I hooked up a relay to break the ground PWM to the heater fan and provide a direct ground to it. This essentially turns the fan on high.
LtEng5 01-02-2010, 05:25 PM I'll have to look into that......
