im getting ready to tackle my 5 speed alli in the coming months(wait till it gets warm again) im looking to do the ScIV kit, precission converter and deep sump pan. my question is whats the odds of the C1 threw C4 clutch clearences being off and if they are what do i do to correct them on acount of theres no adjustment for them. and is there any pointers i should know about when rebuilding it?

SC IV clutch clearances are built into there kit with machined pistons, apply plates, etc. Kits featuring Alto Power Packs may lack sufficient clearance in the C1 and/or C2 clutch packs. Reacommend you pay close attention to the positioning of the Torrington bearings on disassbembly, don't be in a hurry, keep things clean--especially the valve body and solenoids.

Is that bad for someone fairly inclined, with the tools?

I can walk you through a build, wether it be Suncoast or anyone elses kit. It is very time consuming and the person doing it must listen carefully. It is not for everyone. When you make a statement like " The ATSG manual didn't show me something " it scares me if I'm the person helping. Remember your success is my success.

Mike you just need to go ahead and put together a DVD step by step through the whole build......That would free you up from taking all the phone calls and would be a good visual.............................Cause your such a nice guy........lol

Not at all. The key to a successfull trans build is your attension to the small details. If you blast your radio and have your buddies over messing around along with a few beers; you and your trans lose. Looking over an ATSG manual way before you attempt this will help tons. Buying a kit from someone that is capable of helping you is a plus. I am very picky who I sell a kit to because of the time it takes out of my schedule to help them.

Thanks Mike. There are no shops here that want to do aftermarket work on an Allison. I will be doing mine soon with the manual and some help. I'm picking up a Transparts Stage III. I still need to call Precision back and get my converter worked out.

I would love to do a DVD and believe me I could kick ass on one. Problem is after I did one it would be copied and passed around. It costs a lot of money to do one of these the way I want and I stand to lose too much.

Need a way that its encripted so it cant be copied and has to have a password or key code thats only good for so many views.........Thats the only bad thing about doing something like that for the good......People would either copy and sell it or just pass it around to everyone and their uncles cousin's brothers dad.......

I would buy one! You have to do it like they do digital textbooks and the file deletes itself after a given amount of time.

I would think you would get enough guys to buy one to make a little coin. Copyrighting the Mike L. method on video shouldn't be an issue.

Mike if you sell a DVD I guarantee you'll get even more tech-support calls....because the DVD will lull people into a false sence of security; ie people who might not normally be confident enough to tackle the trans will see your DVD and say "oh shit a how-to DVD...I should now be able to do this with my eyes closed!!" and get half way into it, forget something, not understand the DVD correctly etc.......

perfect example, I think most people would agree that my nav-install DIY was spelled out just about as simply as possible. Yet I STILL get about 6 PM's a week asking "well how do I do this, will this work?". UGH. RTFM.

hey btw you never called me back :p:

Just going off memory , dont have a manual in front of me but in my head i counted 5 torrington bearings . read the entire ATSG manual , it will take you through the tear down procsess and the re-assmebly , if you still cant find the torrington bearings then post back .

One thing I would recommend is give yourself ample time. Some can do it in a day others a weekend. I say give yourself more than that. There is no need to rush through it.
