Have you ever seen a bug or dirt in factory paint?
I am looking to buy a truck and there is something in the paint on the hood and the owner says it hasn't been painted.
What do you think?
Thanks,
Mike

He's lying or maybe doesn't know if it's repainted. I've never seen bugs under factory paint but who knows I guess.

Many times the dealers don't prep the truck right when it leaves the lot, it usually has what is called rail dust or industrial fallout but that looks like reddish rust looking stuff. Take a good look at it to make sure that isn't it. If it is a clay bar will remove all that crud. If it has been repainted then your screwed. Should be able tell if it had been repainted.
Good luck.

Look for possible overspray under the hood and any joining parts. I found a very tiny corner of my rubber windshield moulding that had silver overspray on it from poor masking. That got me $800 negotiating money.

Factory paint does have dirt, lint, or even bugs in it sometimes ! I worked in a factory paint shop running a paint booth for several years. ( 200 cars a day through my paint booth )
Most dirt, bugs, lint, craters, etc.. can be scuffed, and buffed out, but some defects do get past the paint inspectors, and some cars/trucks get repainted in the factory.

I bought a new 2004 LLY and the paint was total JUNK from the factory.. there was sooooooooooo much dirt in the paint I thought it was a $99 paint job.
Needless to say they bought it back and built me a new truck.
The 06 LBZ I have has really brittle paint. there are several rock chips that have taken huge flakes of paint off... and now I have rust popping out on the passenger door already!!

Yes it is possible for the factory paint to have junk, but anything really terrible would usually be taken care of by the factory or dealer before it was sold. Look over the entire truck, if it similar on the rest of truck it may be factory, but if it is isolated to a panel or two, chances are it has been repainted.
Also, peel the hoodliner back and look under there, and look on the insides of the fenders and in the door gaps for overspray.

Yes. My truck has a piece of trash (might be a bug or dirt or whatever) in the paint on the roof. My truck has been in my possession since I backed it off the truck at the dealership. I know my truck has not been repainted.

Yes i have seen dirt, bugs, & runs in factory paint. Its not a blemish free world When it comes to paint, but people will freak out over any little flaw they see in the finish.
