With 50k on my '04 I'm having some funky trans issues. When I start up in the morning after the truck has sat overnight and I shift into reverse the truck does not move. I really have to lay on the gas and then it seems to catch and run normal except for some really hard downshifts lately. No chips or performance mods but I have run TranSynd since new. Anyone else have this problem or any ideas ????

When is the last spin-omfilter change?

I change it every 15k and the last one has about 5k on it. I changed it then because that's when I started with the hard downshifts. It almost seems like the torque converter gets sluggish. very weird to put it in reverse and not go anyplace.

Sounds like a converter drain back issue. If its still under warranty I'd take it to the dealer and have it checked out.

I have 50k on my truck. I think the allison is covered under the diesel 100k warranty. I checked the dipstick before I started it today and the tranny fluid was waaay high. I started her up and put it in reverse but no gas and it took a few minutes to pump enough fluid into the converter to move the truck. Then I shut her down and rechecked the fluid level. Big difference. Anyone know what the fix is ??? Or if it will hurt anything to stay like it is? :(
Well after reading the owners manual I guess the tranny only has 36k of warranty.

hi,tranny should be ck'd when vech is running, their are 2 spots on dip stick one when cold and the other when hot

Yes I understand that but if it is checked when it is stopped and not running before start up and then checked again not running after a few minutes the levels should be the same on the dipstick (I hope). Remember I am not checking the tranny for proper fluid level I am checking to see if the torque converter is draining back into the trans. The problem I am experiencing is at start up only after setting overnight.

There is a TSB on the "Converter Drain Back" problem. Sounds like you are experiencing it.

Let the truck idle after start up for 30 seconds or so and then put it in gear.

The repair is a new valve (updated), I believe, and it should be under warranty.

If you let it idle at start up and don't put it into R or D right away, you are not doing damage.

Thanx Joe, I'll look for that TSB to see if its on line here. I have been putting it straight in gear but I'll sure let her idle for a few until I can get it in.

I found the TSB. Does anyone know if GM will cover this repair with 50k on my truck or am I just SOL? If I have to pay several hours of labor to fix it I'll just let it idle a minute or two before I put it in gear as long as it won't harm the tranny.
