So what exactly does a blockerplate do? Why block off a passage and will this light the dash up?

Block the egr from exhaust flowing back into your intake. Keeps all the nasty soot out of your intake horn and engine. Didn't light my dash up, but it may light your since its an LBZ.

I see , this doesnt make the turbo pointless? isnt it supposed to push exhaust back through to help boost? Sorry if I sound like an idiot , im lookin to be corrected if I'm wrong. No gains of any sort to speak of just keepin it cleaner in there er what?

Yea well its really there just for emissions, the egr valve opens lets exhaust back thru the intake and it displaces the air cooling combustion temps to reduce NOx emissions. You end up with soot buildup in your intake because of it. It also doesn't effect the turbo.

The EGR takes exhaust gas and in our case soot and regenerates it into your intake manifold. Soot is a contaminate that can accumulate blocking of a passage it travels through like the arteries to your heart causing a heart attack or stroke. Soot can attach to itself and become larger and larger even in your oil and soot particles that get big enough can cause wear in your engine. A blocker plate will shut of that regeneration of soot into your motor.

good way to explain the reason for the blocker ha

Anyone with an LBZ do this to their engine? If so any lights on the dash? Can a programmer take care of the lights on the dash if it happens? Wanna learn as much as possible before adding another mod to the list.

I've done the blocker plate and it did set off the light. The best way to combat the light is to install a fingerstick (I got mine from www.kennedydiesel.com (http://www.kennedydiesel.com) ) it's not hard to install (just some soldering) and the directions are top notch. Another option is EFI Live which should be able to turn off the EGR and/or the light.

What exactly is the fingerstick? a manual switch or something?

Also a PPE standard and up will block the codes.

Thanks just read it before coming back to this thread.

How about the PPE Economy tuner?

So the title of this thread is "What does a Blocker Plate do"
All good info so far, but from another thread I also got

You can only build about 25 psi without the blocker plate, the EGR blows open.
Right now without the blocker installed the max I've seen is about 22 psi. However, I've only got about 75 miles on the truck with the boost gauge installed and haven't towed with it yet. Have folks seen an increase in boost with the plate install on an only slightly modified truck? Wont' this lead to increased power?
Since the EGR is supposed to lower combustion temps to reduce NO2, will the increased temps with the EGR blocked produce more power?
But then what happens to EGT?
I am required to go to the local County Government Inspection station for my trucks Emissions test. Will the NO2 levels go up enough that they look for the Plate and Fingerstick?

Doing the mods in steps, and at a snails pace since my schedule is so tight, so I can see the difference each change does.
BD driver's side manifold is going in today and the Downpipe should be installed next week. The Blocker plate should go in after after Christmas since the Fingerstick is a Christmas present.

BD manifold isnt worth the 300...

BD manifold isnt worth the 300...
Not expecting ANY gains in performance from this change. But I do know my limits. Installing this manifold instead of drilling and tapping the original will save me hours of frustration, the expense and more hours of frustration from needing to replace the turbo from damage due to shavings.
That alone is worth over $300.
Now how about performance gains from the EGR blocking?

No, none at all.

Drilling the stock manifold is easy. I drilled mine without any issues at all. All I did was cleaned out the shavings with a magnet after drilling and packed the tap with grease to catch the shavings. I have done another truck utilizing the "hoot" method. Start by getting ready to drill, start the engine, and drill away. The exhaust will bow out any shavings. (Oh, be sure to wear eye protection when using that method.)

I"m a new be. Where can I find information on how to clean out my 98 6.5 EGR passages. I have look on here for two hours. I like the blocker plate idea. Where would one purchase these items. This unit is my first diesel. Man am I getting an education. Thank you brian

Can some one explain why installing the block off plate will make my truck smoke less?

No real gains, but if you are expecting that installing a manifold being easy, well... those nuts were installed by the secret 800 lb gorilla that GM keeps in a secret room, just to install them. Installation isn't so bad, just removal. Trust me, even air tools can't reach all of them.
