This is the 2nd time, the first time I took it to the dealer and they drove it and checked for codes, none showed up, they drove it, no problems. Today while I was coming to work and passed a truck on the road at 65MPH it started again. It blows black and white smoke and knocks. does'nt seem to be down on power. It did it a couple of times and it went away. I just filled up yesterday. My buddy has a 02 and fills up at the same place with no problems with thier fuel. I think it might be injectors, what do you guys think? Other then that, the best Truck to run the on or off roads. Please help. Its a bone stock truck.

the next time you refuel, put some powerservice in the tank(fuel treatment) to help keep your injectors clean,im also starting to wonder if maybe its part of the breaking in .process,in any event make a appointment with your your dealer to have him look at it , this way here its all documented, and shows history of your problem, best of luck to you, hope this helps.

Do a search for "New LLY stumbles knocks and smokes". It is a long thread that I started (but not the only thread relating to this problem) when my truck had 995 miles on it. Bottom line was "all new injectors". Some say Stanadyne will work. I tried it, still run some every so many tanks or if I go to a station of un-known quality out of need. The pickup now has 13,500 miles on it. Good luck and enjoy the "Diesel Place" and all of the good info that it has.

PS to all.

Now that summer is on the way/here, I wonder if this "smoke problem" is going to be more frequent compared to the winter. ????

I though I'd give you guys an update on what happen at my dealer for this. I'd also like some feedback. The dealer did an Injector balance check and went by there (at the time) GM Tech Services bulletin. First they checked the tank for proper seal on the cap, that was good. Then they did the balance check. All of them where good within the +/_ 4 and balanced except for #3 it was 2.5-3.0. They drove it for 50 miles and put some Standadnye in the tank. Drove it some more and did another balance check. #3 went down a full point. They sent me on my way with the bottle of Performance Junior. I just finshed it in my last tank of fuel. My plan is see what it does now. It hasn't smoked or knocked. But if it does, someone will be replacing #3 and it won't be me.They also put in a new Fuel Filter

Could be a new injector finding its seat. I dunno? Too bad to hear you have issues. I hope it works out for you. I'm abusing the hell out of mine will using it a lot and several WOT moments. Good Luck and keep us posted.

I started using the powerservice in my tank at approx 7,000 miles and try to only visit a select few stations to avoid smoke and bad fuel. I use it every other tank or so to keep the bugs down and the performance up. Now at 8,700, no problems at all..It does sound like an injector that is unseated to me as well...JMO, Matt

I had similar problems, ie..smoke and clattering upon acceleration and 'new' tank of fuel. I called my local dealer since I was 150+ miles from home. I explained he said "get it in to the nearest dealer-NOW". Did so and no codes were found. They checked the fuel injectors and found one was asking for more fuel and another was wanting less. So they are replacing the two injectors- in warranty w/ rental- so I got back home last night. I had no check engine lights or anything else and this was confirmed w/ the dealership's computer. Shop foreman said I could have blown the engine, so in the for what it's worth department- I'd have it checked further with the dealership. Oh, mine is an '04 4x4 LLY w/ 13k miles- all stock (for now) Leanne
