What is the prupose of this thing on an 09 D/A? I figure it raises the idle but what for? Is it a necessity on a new truck?

thanks

Theres two different high idles on the trucks, one is the "elevated idle" that you can set to turn on or off thru the dic. It's used in colder climates and will only turn itself on when it's below 30 deg or so to help with warm up while idling and brings the engine up to about 1,000 rpm's.

Then theres the $200 "high idle" option that works thru the cruise control switch and can be used at any temp when it's needed, like for running a winch or an aftermarket air compressor or for jump starting another vehicle or to run an inverter.

Ok thanks so it really doesn't do anything to keep the PDF from cloging. Ok then I really don't need it. I n know I don't want to have someone put one on. With all this computer stuff I'd be afraid it would blow something out. So this is more for a contractor that uses the truck for a power source. Thanks for the help.

On the older trucks it was a switch on the dash and you could install it yourself. On the LMM it is done through the cruise control buttons and there is no way to add it after the fact.

Thanks Desail for the simple explination,What advantage will you get from a third battery and inverter the running of 120v appliances?

Yes, I use the inverter for running tools and computer equipment. The thrid battery is issolated from the regular batteries so as to not drain the drain them when the truck isn't running.

that high idle is really sweet for jump starting another vehicle.

Its is very cool. Hit the parking Brake turn cruise on and hit (+ or Set) something like that on the wheel and it goes to about 1200RPM's, and the turbo kicks in too. Helps to heat it up. Also very easy to run an inverter for an Air Compressor or to Jump start another vehicle

As diesail mention in another post the very next day, the high idle can be added for 08 and up after the factory now.
