: Removed the exhaust from the flange

I removed the exhaust system from the flange (under the cab) for testing purposes. Here's some info and some questions:

- The animal wont get out if you do that in the driveway with the truck on the ground. I rolled up the rear on some ramps and the lifted the truck by the hitch to make some space between the axel and the bed. THEN it came out.

- This is very loud; both inside and outside the truck

- When rolling and smoking, the smoke gets sucked in the space between the cab and the bed. After a few minutes, your rear window is WAY more tinted than intended by GM and your truck looks like It cought on fire from the outside.

- This may be unrelated but there was alot of hesitation (similar to a cloged fuel filter) when I went to the drag strip with this setup. Replaced the whole thing this morning and the hesitation seems to be gone. Could that be the total lack of backpressure? Anyone with a similar experience? I seemed to go away has I tuned down the bastard stack (Quad 215/HJAT). I've been using this stack on 215/5/5 since day one. Going to the drag strip tomorrow and will bring a spare fuel filter just in case.

Thanks.

I ran that way for a weekend and at the strip. The truck felt stronger and without any hesitation. I also had to lift the truck on the right side to get it out. The drawbacks I noticed were noise and a sooty underside. The lly sounds crappy the way the varible turbo changes. I wonder if a down turn on the pipe would help.

You could make a short dump pipe that would bolt on, so it angles down and to the side. That's what I did first to be sure I wanted it straight piped.. Drove around that way for an hour, then went ahead and replaced the muffler and put the tailpipe back on. Much quieter this way than dumped, alot of it due to the resonance on the bottom of the truck when dumped.

Nar, do you want to sell the dump pipe?

Anybody with an LB7 who tried that setup? Went to the track today with the exaust line replaced and the problem went away, no need to change the fuel filter. After a few runs, I tried letting an airspace of 1/2" on the flange and it has helped a little. Did a 8.36 sec on the 1/8, my previous best was 8.435 sec.

_nar_ : I would guess that the 8 more feet of bended pipe would quiet it a little. The flange is very close to the turbo...

I cut it off and made it into the tailpipe. I could make another one easily though. I still have a lot of the exhaust from my buddies lb7, along with another flange. I could weld the angle tailpipe part on there and really dump it to the side..

I had planned to make a dual exhaust out of it, but I like the way it sounds now so I think I'll just leave it alone.. So it would be easy to make something like that with some of the pipe.

How dumped to the side would you want?

Also as to selling it, is it worth anything?
