I went from a utility bed to a regular long bed. The truck had a longer filler neck that went back just in front of the rear tire on the utility bed.

When I installed the regular long bed on my truck I shortened the existing filler neck to work versus buying one as they're fairly spendy.

I went to fill up the first time since installing the long bed it's like there's a sponge in the neck causing the neck to fill quickly shutting of the pump. I can only get about a gallon a minute into the tank.

I do have the vent line hooked up. I did notice that the filler neck has a slight "p-trap" to it. Would this be causing the neck to fill quickly and VERY slowly let diesel into the tank?

Can you guys tell me if your filler neck is pretty much 45'd to the tank or is there a slight "p-trap" in the neck?

Thanks for the help, I can't tell you how frustrating this is.

The only time I ever have that issue is when i use the pumps at truck stops.. otherwise the slower pumps are alittle better once they get started

yeah i have the same problem at some truck stops. i have to move the nozzle around till i find the spot where it doesnt shut off. i also have to either hold the fill lever down manually or i can get it to stay running on the first click.

This is far worse than a slow fill. The neck is filling up with barely a trickle of diesel coming out of the nozzle. I can see the foam come all the way up to the neck and I barely have the pump on, i mean BARELY. This was on a regular pump, not a large truck pump.

I know it's a pain but can anyone post a picture of there filler neck going down to the tank? I'm thinking its the slight "p-trap" that's in my filler neck that's causing the problem.

Thanks for the help.

Rooftop---question: do you have a plastic tube inside the filler neck? this allows the tank to vent air while you fill.

As far as the stock filler neck....It does not have a P-trap but it does bend into the tank. Hard to explain.

My filler neck did not have a tube inside the filler neck when I modified it to fit my long bed. There was an external vent tube. There is a 90 just after the fuel cap and another just before the tank, there is a tube between the two 90's, I'm guessing that the vent tube.

I'll try and get a pic here soon.

So I guess the question is how is the air venting? You mention an external vent tube yet also mention an internal tube between the two 90's. Usually if there is an external vent tube is starts at the tank and goes up without any bends to the top of the filler neck.

You probably do need to show a pic to see what you are up against.

fill tube has one 50* bend in tube about a inch and a half below the underside of the bed then runs straight into the tank which has the riser fitting on it.

the angle of the fill door sill plate and the tube is 90*. only the one bend just below the bed with no "p" or "s" trap in the line.

Sorry for the confusion, I don't have an internal vent the one connecting to the 90's is an external. Here is a picture, don't mind the wires, they're from some lights that were on the utility bed.

I use to have no problem filling up when I had the utility bed and the longer filler neck. I had the same external vent as well. I think it has something to do with the slight P-trap in the filler neck now, but want to see if someone knows for sure before I get to work.

Thanks,

BAD, BAD BAD...

the extension tube between the two pieces of rubber tube needs to be shortened, so that the rubber tubes butt together and you will probably have to shorten the lower rubber tube about a inch or so also. shorten the coupler tube first and see how it looks before you cut the rubber tube. the lower tube should be flat to slightly up hill from the tank to the down angle tube of the filler door. shorten the vent tube so that there is no "trap" in that tube also...as any fue the have come up into the vent will collect in the "trap" and block air going in or out.

confused:think::confuzeld

Second what LT said. No change in slope on both your fill hose and the vent hose. Tighten(shorten) both of them up so you constantly work your way up from the tank up to the side of the truck where you fill.
