Got my truck torn down to replace all the injectors and in the process I noticed that the metal bracket that goes to the glow plugs (looks like a thin metal strip that connects all 4 plugs together) is busted on the driverside. Does anyone know if this metal bracket actually serves a purpose and I need to get a new one, or does the bracket do nothing? Also, does anyone know what this metal strip is called, so if I have to get one the dealer will know what the heck I'm talking about. Thanks

Its the contact rail for the glow plugs, it distributes the power to them. With it being broke, your glow plugs dont work.

Its on backorder from GM, might take them a bit to get it.

IIRC, they are interchangeable side to side. Ive got an extra one that Id sell. Let me know.

You can also just replace with a section of copper wire. They seem to break on the drivers side close to the firewall. The road splash of salty water hits there. Naturally, that is the first glow to get juice and when it breaks there, 7/8 are NOT powered. Makes for a hard start!

Goldfly727: I'm currently changing my injectors. What indications did you have that they needed changing? I'm new to diesels and am finding diagnosing problems to be very difficult.
