I looked at this for a long time. From all the post I read both are very good kits. No idea if looking at someone building but check with Merchant Automotive to the west of you. Mike L is selling another kit with precision converter that I read is good too.

I would go with Suncoast as I and many others have had poor luck with ATS stuff.

Or could build you a trans to meet your exact requirements. 1 day turn around and I'll buy ya lunch to boot.

In answer to your question, I give the nod to the SC stuff. Keep in mind that neither are a 'rebuild' kit, rather, an upgrade kit.

Yeah. I am hoping the build I have is ready though. But worst case a freshing up pack. Yeah probably could install twins myself or maybe have Tyler down here do the job. Still good job Eric. Have a Happy Thanksgiving which is almost over unless your having a 4 day weekend.

Why is that mike? Do not most "builders" simply install the "kit"? Granted, ther are a few that know some super secret squirrell tricks...but unless he is goin to goto a specialized shop that is certified crazy about the allison all he is gonna get is the kit he would buy anyways.

I think what Mike L was trying to say was theres more to it than just getting the kit components, if the install is incorrect it doesnt matter how strong the parts are they will fail because of incorrect installation.

Lets say you have a trans with 130k on it and you take it to a shop to have a kit installed. When he's done, you still have a trans that has 130k on it with upgraded clutches. A good builder won't upgrade a trans in that manner and would "update" it with new bearings, seals, etc. This is usually a good seperation in price than just poping it open and sticking clutches in it....also takes a bit more time as well.

I can pretty much gaurantee, if you are only paying 6-800 in labor, all you are getting are new clutches and shift kit. I doubt any trans shop in the country would refresh an Allison for less than 1k and figure them to be more in the 12-1500 area. So in this case, the earlier the better. I usually do a lower mileage trans with little abuse for less than a 5sp with 100k plus on it. The overhaul kit for an Allison is one of the most expensive.
