This weekend i will be installing my 1998 bench seat in my 1994. Eventually i want to do a interior swap in the next year or so. I know this will be a lot of work, but i have so much time and money into my truck already, and its kind of working its way to my hobby that i want to switch my 94 square and boxy interior to a 95 style. I will have done every upgrade except the dash and steering column to the newer style. I really like the newer cab style over the older style. What is needed to change this over? I would figure the dash, door panels, steering column, gauge cluster, and radio. Does the newer style dash have the 3 piece radio setup? Is the wiring harness basically the same? This project wont be done for a while yet, or untill i can get a sick nasty deal on a complete interior in red. But i was just starting to research this.

That is a huge project. All the wiring on the front of the truck will need to be from 95. Engine and interior. Buy a donor truck. A/c- heater is different also. A cab swap would be easier.
The radios in the 95+ are standard 1 piece. Aftermarket goes in real easy with install kit.

It can be done but the hard part is the wiring. Unless you get an entire harness you will have to splice wiring. There is a pretty complete writeup on FullSizeChevy in the interior section. It's stickied.

from a person that owns a 95, go with a newer year. like 96 or up. some things in the 95 year are 95 only and you can't use the same part from another year. heater controls come to mind, they are 95 only and are hard to find, except at the dealer and they want an arm and a leg for them. i found some in Texas and had them shipped to me. wiring is different from 95 to 96 also. i guess 95 is that year they changed from the square dash to the rounded and in that year found some grimmlins and fixed them for 96.

No they changed the dash from 94-95, 95-96 was the change in obd-1 to obd-2. The square dash has the analog heater controls, which are very expensive if you cant find one at a junkyard. The newer dash went to a knob style, which was more simple. I really could use the dash out of a 95-99, but i just didnt want to deal with a pass. airbag... I would take the airbag out of the newer column too, i dont want to get into hooking up safety devices like that...

He is right Slug, the heater control for example is 95 only. I also owned "that truck"

LMC truck lists the heater control as 95 only. 96-99 is different part#. That would explain why the 97 control I tried in my 95 wouldn't work. They look the same.

Im quite fond of my 96 for various reasons. It has the newer interior, OBD2, engines accessories were switched around and the newer style compressor added. They still didnt have the passengers side air bag for 96 either which means extra cup holders and a nicer looking dash on that side. 97+ had a big bulging box on the passengers side above the glove box. I dont like that. There are some things about the later 6.5 trucks that I dont like either.

Anyways my 96 has a two piece radio. The tape player and radio are one assembly and the CD player is a seperate assembly below the radio and tape player.
